eBay trying their hardest to put people off Rant!

Is it just me or is eBay trying their utter most best to try and put sellers off using eBay?

It was simple when we paid fees on sold items or shop fees, now they've changed to 'buyer protection fees' I never know where I am with fees or offers, there was nothing wrong with it before!

Simple delivery - No it's not, get rid of it, why can't I choose to get rid of it totally from my options. Not sure if anyone else has noticed but every now and again eBay will 'somehow' change a listing's delivery option, I now regularly check all my listings and have to manually change them back! They've obviously made it so you can't change it on some platforms (won't work on my newer iPhone but will on desk top or older software on phone)

Why can't they stop messing about with something that works!

Because SD is a money making scam.  Simples!!   I have a 'time away from selling' banner up, which has been up since the 1st April and won't be coming down any time soon.

Have you had a look at eBay's reviews on Trustpilot recently?  20K plus reviews, average 1.3 stars.  No replies to any of them from eBay.  It seems that SD and BPF are not the only things that private sellers need to worry about.  The publicity about the BPF seems to have attracted unscrupulous buyers who buy from unsuspecting private sellers purely to exploit this.  Ebay's AI seems to be making the decisions about disputes, and many private sellers with several years of successful selling and 100% feedback are losing out.  It's almost as if, now that they have made such a big deal of the BPF, it has to be seen to be working.

One lady sold a designer bag.  The buyer said it was fake, and without contacting the seller, the buyer was refunded in full and told to send the bag back.  The buyer sent her a FAKE bag back in its place.  Other people have had buyers asking for refunds days and weeks after delivery, which eBay agree to, with damaged and used items returned.  If there is no money in your eBay account to process a refund, eBay take it directly from your bank account.  When people try and complain, eBay accounts are frozen.

I no longer feel that eBay is a safe and fair place to sell my items.  I will continue to 'lurk' and monitor the situation but if I ever sell again it will only be stuff that I can afford to write off if the s$%t hits the fan.  Such a shame that eBay has come to this, when it used to be so great to buy and sell.

You can’t get rid of it unless your items are exempt from it and actually many of your items are ie postcards

But postcards aren’t exempt from all  categories that they appear in as sub cateories

Bit of a mess in general

You  have to work around their system

Find categories you can list which are exempt and as near as possible to your items

a multi billion are dollar corporation that cant figure out its own postage as it says it does ie for postcards  is a bit of a joke

 Collectable/postcards & supplies/postcards is safe to use

Hi Edwardian,

It may be fair to assume that by now Ebay has figured out which categories it wants SD to be compulsory on and which ones (vinyl records, comics, etc.) it thinks it can get away with charging higher postage rates for. Sadly it doesn't have much to do with item value either.

Possibly also which ones it wants to be scared away from the platform for good? Postcards could be in there.

The exemptions are just so many crumbs scattered in our general direction.

Yes, but it's strategic underperforming, as in it probably suits them. We've seen this sort of thing before.

Enjoy your hols. Stay away from here, if you can. 😊
