What can reasonably be expected from a courier?

Img_2025_11_22_18_40_07.jpeg

A buyer says that this item they received from me arrived broken. This is pretty sturdy. I think you would have to make a real effort to break it.

What do you think? Am I being unreasonable to expect that it should arrive in one piece?

Now, I'm thinking of withdrawing more delicate items completely.

After seeing a documentary on tv how some couriers ' deliver' items,  that is,  throwing them pole vault high over fences,  one even attempting and winning on throw 3,   to throw an item into a first floor open window,  then yes,   I can expect any item  can be delivered broken!

Did you send the item with Simple Delivery?  Then,  the buyer should open a case for item arrived damaged in transit.  eBay will take over the case,  refund the buyer,  and you'll get to keep the payout.

Re: What can reasonably be expected from a courier?

It’s hard to judge without knowing how you packed it.

For example Amazon often perform a drop test on anything that goes into their warehouses via FBA. The packaged item is dropped from 1m onto a concrete floor on all sides. Would it survive that based on how it was packed?

They certainly shouldn't be using Simple Delivery.

Unless of course they are sadly having to sell their long loved collection of Acne Sprays and Beauty Collagen tablets.

I'm not sure what the nasty sarcasm achieves. It's an insect house that I sold for £8 including the postage cost.

It's made from solid wood. So it surprised me to hear it's broken.

I can only feel it though, being blind.

Thanks for your nasty interjection.

Thankyou

That's very helpful.

Re: What can reasonably be expected from a courier?

Sorry if you feel I’m being harsh. My first post was pragmatic. I have no idea how you packaged the product and that will very much base on whether it made it intact. Couriers can be pretty rough with parcels. All you can do is pack it more robustly.

my second post stands. You are selling multiple new goods. A Private seller account is for selling off your secpnd hand goods.
