Something went wrong and we were not able to generate the label

Hi, I am trying to purchase royal mail postage through eBay but when I click purchase postage label I get this message "Something went wrong and we were not able to generate the label" is there a problem or am I doing something wrong?

Thank you for your post.

It appears to be an intermittent issue that happens with not being able to generate the labels. Tech continue to work on resolving it.  With regards to receiving a Royal Mail label when Evri is the preference set. In certain circumstances we will provide you with a label for a carrier you haven't selected. For example, if your package exceeds your preferred carrier's package limits. If you use the recommended label by eBay and if the sizing is incorrect the carrier should still accept it as any costs incurred will be taken care of by eBay.

Still happening...

"It was not possible to generate the label. Something is wrong. Please try again later."

I am unable to generate postage labels for items sold earlier today - still not working several hours later.

I also could not take the items to the Post Office to buy postage there as eBay will not give me the buyer's address, as I am forced to use the stupidly named 'Simple' Delivery - probably because eBay make a commission on this.

I promise Same Day Dispatch on my sales.  I failed to honour that on today's sales.  If this isn't fixed by tomorrow morning I will miss the Saturday collection time at my local Post Office and it will be Monday, at the earliest before I can dispatch the items. 

Make delivery Simple again - bring back the old system and allow sellers to use their own delivery service, outside of the forced eBay partners, if required..!

Surely ebay cannot fault you for asking the buyers for their addresses as their systems are falling down as usual. That is what I would do - I hate to disappoint buyers also.

When you are on the “get prepaid label page” click on the little arrow to the right and you can see the customers address. (iOS eBay) I use this for my own labels and just copy and paste, but yeah really frustrating at the moment you can’t just go to the normal post office, buy your own postage and upload the tracking number yourself like the good old days!!!

I am also having this issue. Three orders over 6 hours today and each one has the same error message. 

eBay Help and Support AI has no clue and you can’t speak to a real person.

Think it’s time to look for a new platform to sell.

Anyone else notice the price of the postage has also crept up a couple of pence? It’s £2.70 at the post office and their app. On eBay it’s now £2.72…..and you’re forced to use it….all those extra 2p’s going to add up 💰

Apparently if you import your orders ****into parcel2go which you can only do if you  haven’t clicked on get label / got the label 

You can send your own way through them

i dont know if you can then add tracking because 

I read that to add tracking when you don’t use SD , you must already have got a label but not used it 

and then ask for a refund for the eBay label 

you need to register with parcel2go and use smart send and link your eBay account there 

You get the normal courier and Royal Mail rates 

whenever you get a sale it registers on there, so you don’t actually have to do anything 

****so I didn’t mean you have to import anything

Same issue here. Just sold an item and unable to generate a postage label. Proper amateur hour that eBay can't resolve this after what appears to be several months.

Hey Kat, I'm not sure if you are still with the company but I'm having a similar issue, I have attached a pic and that is what i get when I click on generate the label. But i know the buyer has paid for royal mail tracked delivery

Think Kat may be on a day off today, but this is an issue many are experiencing today.

It seems to be a Royal Mail issue.

Someone has just posted this helpful information see below,  perhaps this is the reason why you and so many others are in the same predicament?

The business Click and Drop website is down since sometime last night. I assume this is related and eBay's RM labels are generated from the same domain.

RM Click and Drop business domain is different to the retail site. The retail site is still working.

I assume ebay gets their labels generated via the business domain.

RM own C+D service checker claims the site is working correctly, but the website page shows it as down.
