Simple Delivery rip-off

Simple Delivery is now the default setting but it is possible to opt out of Simple Delivery by selecting "Switch to Advance Options".  Why is Ebay pushing this?

Simple, Ebay gets a discount on the postage and creams off some of the cost the buyer pays. The seller gets nothing to cover packaging and other costs like driving to the post office because home collection is not offered with Simple delivery. My advice is OPT OUT OF SIMPLE DELIVERY

Re: Simple Delivery rip-off

have to suck it up that buyers will be paying £2.70 but at least they have rejigged the buyers premium. Also this week the have speeded up the payments . But my old £2.00 item plus £2.00 P&P now costs the buyer £4.90 it had a big effect on my sales

Re: Simple Delivery rip-off

Hi thanks for the response but do you know how to actually opt out of
simple delivery for items less than the 200g? I've got a lot of items for
sale where delivery was set at £1.55 but now its almost £3. My customers
are unlikely to pay that for something I'm selling for £1/£2.

Re: Simple Delivery rip-off

There is an issue , a long standing one,  that Custom Postage is not showing for items which are exempt from Simple Delivery,  namely oversize or lightweight items.

There are 2 workarounds that work, links below.  They may show how to deal with an oversize item, but you can adapt, and use it for lightweight items,  too.

Re: Simple Delivery rip-off

I was fed up with Simple Delivery as a seller but now I'm getting shafted as a buyer too. I just bought some items totalling £24.00 and eBay is trying to charge me £19.95 delivery. They've added between over 60 p and £1 per item on top of the shipping price for one item. That's an utter rip-off. The seller isn't getting £19.95. They'll kill all sales with this stupid system.

Re: Simple Delivery rip-off

Because of a number of items from one buyer? I guess if a label isn't used you will get a refund...eventually, that is if the seller is able to combine, the problem comes if it's not possible to use one of the labels for more than one item. I really don't think eBay encourages combined postage, it hasn't done for ages, with the way buy it now and making offers works i.e pre SD. Before SD I've had to pay all the postage then the seller refunds the excess, but at least they could buy the appropriate postage.

I've started listing items at 2kg so if someone buys two items B.I.N they might go into one parcel.

When I sold 2 items on auction eBay put them together, and made them small parcel, they would probably have squeaked into large letter, but I was fully expecting eBay to have charged the buyer full price for each.

Re: Simple Delivery rip-off

It is all a total rip off - Simple Delivery & Buyer Protection Fee - purely
to put ever more money into ebay's bulging bank account. We are all sick
fed up with these policies which have damaged sales beyond belief! The
number and variety of complaints is no surprise. Ebay should take serious
note to what the genuine level of complaints are being registered on the
Community Forum - but will they? I doubt it.

Re: Simple Delivery rip-off

I'm not sure if they are totally to blame, the constant pushing to pay for promotion might be in the mix too - another sort of fee for sellers to pay.

I'm more than certain they'll scrap SD/BPF within a year.

Re: Simple Delivery rip-off

Hmmm I think they've had a huge amount of backlash against SD and i wonder what the threshold is going to be until they realise they've made a mistake. I guess we'll wait and see!

You can have my last Rolo by the way 😀

Re: Simple Delivery rip-off

I agree it is awful. I sell records and while it covers the actual postage it doesn't cover the £2 package costs

Just include it I hear people say. The trouble is people look at the BIN price.

Before you could easily charge tge right money for postage and people happily paid it.

Think I'm off to Discogs

Re: Simple Delivery rip-off

You're so right! I feel your pain. I usually buy more than I sell so
have a ready supply of recyclable mailers to use. (perhaps for sellers such
as yourself, there is a market for used mailers?)
As a buyer I am more inclined to pay a realistic postage price than an
inflated BIN.
See you on Discogs

Re: Simple Delivery rip-off

Thanks for all your replies, folks.

Sorry I haven't been replying...I don't use the forum much (except to rant!), and the replies went to spam on my personal e-mail.

Yes, let's hope ebay ditch this soon.  It's shambolic - and losing them tons of business and and last vestiges of goodwill they had.
