Just gone to post an item bought and paid for yesterday. Post Office can't scan Tracked 48 parcels - I knew there was an issue as it has been publicised. Before Simple Delivery I would have used a different Service at no extar cost to the buyer and made sure the item was sent today. BUT because eBay now dictates what you do there is no flexibility. I can't send the item until the issue is resolved and can do nothing about it. eBays solution is post it somewhere else - The nearest is 8 miles away, so not happening.
Also so called Simple Delivery is more expensive for the Buyer even using the same service as before. It is a total farce. Takes longer to list as you have to virtually have the item packed ready to make sure you have the size and weight correct, before if you made a small error you could sort it out when you came to send it.
Hate Simple Delivery, every change eBay makes now just makes it worse for both buyer and seller.

It's good you didn't drive a 16-mile round trip, as with the Royal Mail glitch it would have been a wasted journey. Do you know you could have done what you wanted - sent the item that day with no extra cost to the buyer?
Since your items are Buyer Pays this would be a courtesy that you choose to offer by paying out of pocket. Once done, Add Tracking Number on the item to update it to your new flexible service. The Buyer's Simple Delivery label will be refunded automatically within 30-days (I almost did this as well during the RM glitch).
You're right that sometimes Simple Delivery is more expensive for the Buyer, usually because it is a Tracked service for small Large Letter items (eBay is still working on making 2nd LL available for all £10 under 100g). But often when I am buying, SD is cheaper than before and includes tracking as well.

Sorry but Simple Delivery is more expensive for the buyer for EXACTLY THE SAME SERVICE i.e. Royal Mail Tracked 48. Sometimes only a few pennies sometimes more. I always researched the most efficient cost effective tracked delivery method for my buyers, now I have little or no choice, it is dictated by eBay. You have a choice of Royal Mail (in my experience generally reliable) and Evri - absolute disaster!
Also driving a 16 mile round trip was the recommendation from eBay as a solution to the scanning issue !!!

if PO cannot scan it why would taking it somewhere else make any difference ? Or did they mean a main PO, if such a thing exists anymore ?

Apparently the IT fault is fixed.

Yes it was fixed Tuesday. Ebay suggested taking the parcel to a "Collection Point" what ever that is. Instructions were generic and to me wrong which is why I ignored them.
