Royal Mail compensation for item not received cases

I have had many "item not received" cases in December, so I had to send the customer the replacement items.

To keep up  some profit, I used a Royal Mail 2nd class delivery but then had to send 1st class delivery for replacement orders as I figured out that the 2nd class items were the most missed out. I used trackable delivery for orders with multiple items, however, for few deliveries the result was the same.

My question is, can I get compensation from Royal Mail for the items that were not delivered? I buy all labels directly from eBay platform, so there is always some reference number and compensation amount given (according to the courier service chart on eBay).

P.S. For trackable delivery item not received case, I just checked on Royal Mail tracking which states that they are still expecting the item which clearly is not gonna happen after 2 weeks of been dispatched by my side.

What should I do? Any help as I am very much frustrated by these high number of ''item not received'' cases.

Re: Royal Mail compensation for item not received cases

My understanding is that when you buy postage from Ebay, you have to claim from Packlink if something goes wrong:

Yes, if the items aren't showing as delivered then you should be able to submit a claim for compensation with Royal Mail.

Packlink only deals with couriers (Evri, Yodel, UPS, Dpd) where eBay is concerned.

Royal Mail and Parcelforce have separate agreements with eBay and any claims need to be made direct with Royal Mail/Parcelforce via their websites.

Re: Royal Mail compensation for item not received cases

Hi,

Thanks for your replies guys. Just to clear my point, I have circled (in red) the compensation column in the screenshot. How can I claim a compensation from Royal Mail for any untracked or tracked delivery and what is the probability in winning such claim? Many Thanks

Re: Royal Mail compensation for item not received cases

Did you get a free "proof of postage" when you sent it? if so, very high chance of compensation.

Re: Royal Mail compensation for item not received cases

How/where do you buy your postage?

From the Post Office or Royal Mail online (click and drop), you make a separate claim for each item by completing the RM form - online a or a paper form from the Post Office.  You should be compensated for the cost of the item, not what you sold it for.  All the details are on the RM website.

If you buy your postage through Ebay (packlink), you claim through Packlink.

Re: Royal Mail compensation for item not received cases

If you buy your postage through Ebay (packlink), you claim through Packlink.

FYI Royal Mail and ParcelForce are not on Packlink. Packlink, either directly or on the eBay platform, only handle Evri, Yodel, UPS, DPD, and InPost services.

If they bought Royal Mail postage on eBay's platform, they will need to claim directly with Royal Mail using the claims form, and if not tracked, hopefully backed by a free proof of postage at sending time.

Re: Royal Mail compensation for item not received cases

Was it the WD40 that was going missing?

Are you sending it by Royal Mail?

If so, the items are being seized as prohibited items and you won't be permitted to claim compensation.

Royal Mail is actually an option on Packlink direct but on eBay Royal Mail is separate to Packlink, so as you say any claim needs to be made directly with Royal Mail.

Re: Royal Mail compensation for item not received cases

No; those all were the jewelry items. Because, they were so small items or don't have much profit margins, that is why I used mostly untracked 2nd class or 1st class Royal Mail postage from eBay platform. Never used post office stamps.

Re: Royal Mail compensation for item not received cases

Oh so they "never arrived" rather than didn't actually arrive

Eg your buyers know the items weren't tracked so are claiming a refund....

Posting prohibited items via Royal Mail is actually a criminal offence, so you need to find a proper specialist courier to send aerosols through the post to remain legal. If RM catch you, you can be prosecuted.

Re: Royal Mail compensation for item not received cases

Thanks but how would I evaluate the cost of the item? because I bought them from China or some other random places and if I just mention an approx. cost figure on the form, do you think that Royal Mail would consider it?

Re: Royal Mail compensation for item not received cases

You need to provide the invoice showing how many units you bought

Divide the price you paid for all the units so you get the cost of one unit

That is the amount RM will compensate

So if you bought 100 identical items  the unit price is total invoice cost divided by 100

The cost cannot be "approximate" it must be exact.
