Ebay Postage and Tacked 48 Signed for

Just had the misfortune of selling an item, then the fun started, i have always used Royal Mail Tracked 48 and signed for,  now there is NO option to get the item signed for by the buyer, therefore if the item goes missing or the buyer says he;s not received the item (which has happened many times) i  have no comeback as saying the seller received the item,

Ebay absolutely makes me sick, i cannot abide the service they try to give...........it's a case of Big Brother do as i say....or leave.....any help to get round this problem would be most appreciated because the guy on the phone just now didn't have a clue!!.........

Re: Ebay Postage and Tacked 48 Signed for

Anyone can actually sign for an item , eBay ask for tracking to show delivery , then payouts are released 2 days after that delivery date.  Otherwise,  no tracking,  it's a 14 day wait.

Sometimes eBay's tracking is slow to update if you find this,  contact Customer Services provide the tracking which has shown delivery on the courier's / RM's website, and they'll update it for you to release your payout sooner.

If you need to in the future,  this is the easiest and quickest way to contact eBay Customer Services, for a Call Back option.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/eua?id=5275&mkevt=1&mkpid

Lines open 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. on weekdays

9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on weekends.

Automated agents will be available on chat outside of the above hours.

I recommend contacting CS first thing in the morning as there's more chance of Dublin answering.

Re: Ebay Postage and Tacked 48 Signed for

If you send it Tracked 48 then you don't need the signature. The Royal Mail confirmation of delivery will be sufficient for the SIMPLE(tons) Delivery at Ebay

Re: Ebay Postage and Tacked 48 Signed for

The purpose of requesting a signature on a delivery is NOT to ensure Ebay pay you promptly (or even at all), it is to ensure that the Royal Mail (other services are not available) hand your precious parcel to a responsible person - not just simply chuck it over a fence or feed it through the letterbox to the dog!

Simple Delivery should allow this extra service, which is often essential on unique and irreplaceable items.

Also, whilst the cost of packaging, labels, etc., can be factored into the selling price - how does that work if the buyer then chooses to pick up the item, rather than you sending it in the post?  They will be effectively paying over the odds for a 'simple delivery' that is not being used.

My 'postage preferences' took into account the size, weight, amount of packaging, plus the cost of Royal Mail 48 hour collection with signature - Simple Delivery does not. If a buyer collected, they did not pay for the packaging that was not used.

Please allow non-business sellers the choice of using the SIMPLE DELIVERY option if they wish, or to set their own postage preferences if that is deemed essential for the items they sell.

If an item is originally listed as a posting item with an SD postage paid by the buyer,  and the buyer then selects to pick up the item themselves,  the label is unused,  and the buyer will be refunded for that label within 30 days.

Presumably if the seller has added any packing charges to the selling costs that's up to them to refund that part to the buyer, those few pence/ substantial amount ??,   can be dealt with in a cash refund on collection.

Re: Ebay Postage and Tacked 48 Signed for

Thank you, that is very 'simple' isn't it - I will of course do that.

That part of my post was an 'add on', however, I would be interested to know your thoughts on how SD ensures that a responsible person receives the package.

Re: Ebay Postage and Tacked 48 Signed for

I have just spent five minutes trying to get the automated assistant to understand my complaint, and then a further twenty minutes talking to an agent who eventually understood the reasoning behind my need for a signature (rather than Ebay's need to make thing easier for themselves when it comes to refunds). He was very patient and as I say understanding, but quite unable to supply an answer. All he could do was 'log' my complaint and hope the 'back-room' staff will look at it in the future. He couldn't say that they would actually look into it, or make any changes. When asked for 'feedback', I noted how helpful the agent was, but also my fear that ultimately the company will not listen and make the simple change to 'simple delivery' that allows sellers to choose the option to insist on a signature (to ensure it is actually handed to someone - not eaten by a dog or left in a bush).
