BEWARE: eBay Postage Label defaults to Small Parcel for Large Letter items

The eBay postage label system is now defaulting to Small Parcel for small, low cost items which were listed and sold with Large Letter postage. In order to get Large Letter to appear as an option, I had to click on another parcel size and then click back onto Large Letter. If you don't notice this, and go with the default, you will be overcharged and out of pocket.

I think you have probably hit the issue I described in my original post. The eBay label system defaults to parcel even though the listing and buyer specified Large Letter. You have to click one of the other size options and then click back on Large Latter before the correct postage charge is shown.

I sold a Large Letter item just this week and this is still the case.  Months have passed since the new postage system was introduced and yet this bug is still unresolved. I bet it would have been fixed before now if it wasn't working to their advantage...

unbelievable .... but sadly not, I've put a few things back on but there are literally no views, it's really annoying me - the new Buyer Protection Fee, I almost feel like apologising to the buyer in the description bit but doubt that would go down well with Ebay, they make it look like the seller is gaining from this and I find myself reducing the asking price to compensate.

Hi!

You have lovely items, so hang on in there.

Two factors may be preventing views / sales .

Christmas is looming so peeps have less money to spend on clothing for themselves,  your lovely winter coats and jackets may sell better next month.

Secondly clothing is a massive market on eBay,  you have  big competition,  check out what others are selling the same items for, are your prices competitive?  Buyers will always select the cheapest if there's a choice!

BEWARE: eBay Postage Label defaults to Small Parcel for Large Letter items

I have had a return accepted by the seller that was sent to me using a Large Letter stamp.  However, ebay want me to buy a Small Parcel label at a cost of £3.25.  The item cost was not much more than this and I am only returning out of principle because the item received was not as described in the listing.

How do I contact ebay and speak with someone or have them call me - is this service still available?

Normally eBay will provide a pre paid label for returns. But if that is not happening, you can still send as Large Letter independently. Just make sure you get proof of posting and input the tracking reference.

Thanks for your reply and advice.  eBay have provided a link to a small parcel label at a cost to me of £3.25 when the item only requires a Large Letter stamp to be returned.

Further the item is Not as Described and the cost of the label should be paid by the seller who has miss represented the item in the listing.

How do I bring this to the attention of eBay and contact them?

Hi again Tressygirl - always look forward to seeing your name 😁

yeah I thought it might not be the best time to start selling again so close to Christmas but I've literally got wardrobes full of stuff which is driving me nuts ... I always do price comparisons but it's difficult - there are so many price variations from seller to seller and a lot of my stuff is new without tags so never really know what someone is willing to pay without feeling like I'm giving it away, I was wondering if there was some kind of equation that people use to come to a decent price but at the end of the day it's what one person is willing to pay.  I've seen similar new items that are heavily priced but they just sit there.  I have just put a few test items on Vinted and literally had more views in 8 hours than over a week on Ebay. Just wish they had a forum like this to get help and advice.

BEWARE: eBay Postage Label defaults to Small Parcel for Large Letter items

Hi everyone.

Thanks again @leighbayuk for bringing this issue to our attention. Sorry this is a bit off topic but im hoping you guys will give me some input?.

So I started selling on ebay months ago, and my family and friends were kindly buying my stuff to help me out. But none of my stuff is selling to the general public - nothing, not even views. Even if you type in my ebay profile name, it doesnt show.

I feel like this is ebays way to lure people into signing up to the promotion fees. I have since wondered if Vinted is a better option, because my stuff is saleable and there shouldnt be any reason as to why its not selling.

Is this just the way of ebay now?

Have any of you experienced this?

caught twice by this though from my use now I think it has been corrected.

Issues though when had to end all listings when internet went down, 10 days, and bulk relisting. Some posting sizes were changed to default.

I sold an item today and the problem is still happening for me. The problem is eBay's default weight of "Up to 1kg" which is invalid for the Large Letter service. The maximum weight for Large Letter is 750g. If you reduce the weight on the buy postage screen then the Large Letter option becomes available.

The problem and root cause of the issue is that "Up to 1kg large letter" is the only option available when creating your listing. Even if you are using Custom Postage.

I've just clicked on 'view listings' on your post above and can see all your handmade items.   I agree with you about Ebay, I'm barely getting any views iether and I've just listed about 8 items on Vinted and they are getting a lot more views, whether they translate into sales is another question.  Vinted seems to have a lot of very low priced items so maybe that's why it's getting more traction but not sure I want to virtually 'give' my new clothing away ... have you looked into selling on Etsy? They have a lot of handmade craft items on there.
