Thats it , after 20 years or so on ebay Im done .

The new pay out rules that are supposed to hit the uk Feb 4th 2025 have pushed me over the edge.

They even tried to implement them on me today , I sold an expensive item & they wanted to hold my funds until 2 days after delivery has been confirmed ...

I contacted the buyer , cancelled the sale & hit them up on facebook  & they bought the item off me directly . All my items on my 2 accounts are coming off & I'm closing my accounts in favour or FB marketplace  & hobby groups .

I have no confidence in this system or the shipping companies to do this correctly . I've had 3 items sent to me this week by a tracked service which were all delivered but the system still says that they are in transit . Hopefully the people i purchased from have been paid out but if they have been subjected to the same i have today they wont get their money..

I called to complain & the customer service rep said that is i sold something & tracking wasnt  updated then id have to wait a MONTH to get paid.

Absolutely Laughable.

Im out !

How were you aware of this , did they send you a message?

Untracked is 14 days as per eBay FAQ'S, are they saying it is now 30 if tracked is not updated too?

This new process is ridiculous and I agree with you that tracking often is not updated to show delivery on eBay's site. In addition, mail often sits in a mail centre for days before delivery and my view is what should my payment be delayed. If I were buying from a retailer, they expect, and receive payment prior to despatch, so why are eBay sticking their oar in.

On my own purchase history over the last 6 months, I can find at least three tracked items that still do not show a status of 'Delivered', but I had received the items in question.

Perhaps eBay can explain how they intend to improve upon their own ability to achieve at least 99.9% accuracy in terms of status before they get involved in delaying peoples payment.

I've ended all my listings today, they hold nothing paid to me.

The new payout rules are not in effect yet.

Your payment was put on hold as you are an infrequent seller not having sold anything in over 12 months, all explained here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/payments-hold?id=4816

It's typical for new and returning sellers to have a payment hold up to 30 days.

If an item was posted and received with feedback left by the buyer

why the hold of payment to the seller for a month ?

Because feedback isn't counted.  Ebay give as much information as they are prepared to in the 'payment hold' policy.

@themidnightcaller The " new" Payment holds are  2 - 14 days after  " considered successful delivery" which is updated ( automated) by the postal courier and ebay system.

Or if you haven't sold anything for quite a while. I think it is a longer hold.

Nothing to do with feedback from a buyer.

Edit - Spelling.

It seems strange to me, the buyer is happy with a purchase leaves feedback but

ebay can hold the money for 2 weeks and up to a month for a sporadic seller

for some unknown reason.. oh well, very baffling..

it think its as simple as this , as they are handling payments now they are acting like a bank & making money out of our money so want to hold onto it for as long as possible . Feb 3rd all of my items come down until this changes .

Re: Thats it , after 20 years or so on ebay Im done . F'k the new payout rules.

You're selling some expensive items so presuming you'll be using a tracked service.  Once tracking has shown delivery money to you,  will be released after 2 days .

It's the Simple Delivery that may / will cause an issue for some.  Some PO's do not offer an Evri service,  this will be one of the postal services eBay will allow buyers to select.  Some PO's do not accept pre paid labelled items.

There are some areas in the UK which Evri do not serve.

So many issues can arise here, which in the end could lead to a seller cancelling their seller account, and probably unhappy to do so in some cases.

We're gonna have to see come March to see the results.  🤔

They just put my money on hold , no notice nothing .

I had a moan about the new rules & the guy on the phone said if its not tracked or if its not updated you'll have to wait a month to get paid after its been delivered . Im not & cannot afford to wait that long to get paid. if I'm selling stuff on here its because i need to not because i really want to .

Re: Thats it , after 20 years or so on ebay Im done . F'k the new payout rules.

I don't think the CS agent you spoke to,  explained the situation correctly.

You have returned to selling after a long break,  so your initial payouts will be held for up to 21 days unless you have tracking to show delivery then it will be released sooner.

As you have returned to selling have you fully registered with eBay's Managed Payments?  If not this also will hold up your payouts.

See here:

You need to provide eBay with details of a bank account and have this account verified.  The usual method here, is for eBay to send 2 micro deposits into that nominated bank account for you to receive,  and confirm to eBay.

Once this is completed,  you will be able to list items for sale,  and receive payouts from those sales.

This will show you how to register for eBay's Managed Payments.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/help/selling/getting-paid/introducing-managed-payments-ebay?id=4795

Sometime, up to the end of March we are told Simple Delivery will be compulsory for Private sellers.  This involves buying tracked postage from eBay, and that tracking has to show delivery.  Once it does payouts are released after 2 days.  If it doesn't or there is no tracking,  then those payouts will be held for 14 days.

Re: Thats it , after 20 years or so on ebay Im done . F'k the new payout rules.

i think sellers that use a cheap tracked service will suffer most. I'd never trust evri they leave stuff on my doorstep when im not in & ive had these items just picked up by passers by .

ebay didnt protect me as a buyer as evri claims the items have been  delivered & theres basically no way to get hold of them.

Ive lost money & goods only recently as a result as a buyer .

As such id never use them to post anything as a seller they are just not a good company , a friend works for them & says they have no onfrastructure its just abunch of individual loacal franchises under one name .

I think moving forward buyers also get to choose how they want their items to be posted & have to pay foir protection .

its all just too messy, too slow to get paid & i dont want any part of it.

Re: Thats it , after 20 years or so on ebay Im done . F'k the new payout rules.

I agree with you. I send all of my items untracked  as I am only able to use the local post box plus to send them tracked would double the postage cost. My customers wouldn’t want to pay that! My items are not expensive and I have only had one item go missing in the past two years.  So from Feb, eBay is expecting me to wait for two weeks before I get the payments.  Ridiculous!
