Payments held

I’ve recently sold two items. The money wasn’t available after the transaction. It then said will be available once delivery is confirmed. The delivery is confirmed and now it’s saying funds will be available in 2 days time!

I’ve never had this before on eBay. I’ve been selling for over 20 years on the platform. Is this now just a way of them making money by holding onto funds?

At present I’m without my item and no money for it.

Re: Payments held

It's the new Buyer Protection system which started this week

From now on your payments are released 2 days after delivery is proved or after 14 days if you do not use tracked postage

You will also notice extra fees being added to the price of your items, the buyer pays this fee on top of the sale price to "protect their purchase".

Thank you. This isn’t a great idea. I hope they reverse the decision.

Re: Payments held

Well, I've succeeded in selling four items this month so far. But I have to wait two weeks for the money to dribble in. Literally two weeks. That's no use to me now as I'm already so deep in debt that I'm selling things I would rather have kept.

Could I now walk into the local supermarket, fill the trolley with food and things, then at the checkout tell the girl that I will pay for these things in two weeks' time. What do you think the reaction might be?

Isn't this new procedure of Ebay's quite illegal?

Surely that's illegal, isn't it?

Many are unhappy about this new ruling you are not alone,  just join in the many lively discussions on the forum.

Is it legal you ask , many are doubting it, but with eBay's deep pockets to ' hire the best lawyers in town' I'd imagine they've dotted every i and crossed every t.  Doubt this was an overnight decision.

Re: Payments held

eBay decided to make selling ‘free’ but now they’re making money on the interest in holding onto the transactions before releasing them. Personally I didn’t mind paying a few quid here and there. It felt like you had some service.

Personally this move of eBay will just make me sell elsewhere. Facebook marketplace, Vinted … maybe it will open up the market again to the like of Yahoo actions 😆

Re: Payments held

I am wondering what happens now if the item is not tracked. I have not received a "delivered" notification for an item sent 4 days ago. I am sure it must have arrived by now. Does this mean eBay will never release the funds? Do we need to track every item we send now?

Re: Payments held

Ah, thanks. Does it automatically pay out after 2 weeks? Looks as though everything has to be tracked now then. Not great as postage more expensive for the seller.

Re: Payments held

I believe it does. But to be honest Royal Mail small parcels are pretty
cheap now can be collected for free

Re: Payments held

I know I've just got exactly the same. It's not right at all. I don't think I will be selling on ebay no more. It's put me right off. There are plenty of selling platforms out there now. And don't keep your money. This morally wrong. A d is not acceptable

Re: Payments held

If you promote your items and you have a balance available to pay put, they will take money from your cleared balance. So, best thing is to clear the account as soon ass possible. Any way they can hold your money and make you wait, they don't even take the money from the holding pot. Stright from cleared money. Terrible way to treat sellers.

Re: Payments held

I've paid in postage refunds £20 will be 5 days (as tracked) before i start to get the money, they have taken the refunds out of available balance instead of pending leaving -£3.09 in there. No way i will promote it's just another seller fee and hardly anything is selling because of the mess that they have made

Re: Payments held

I wasn't use to eBay postage label.

And postage was royal mail recorded delivery, which was delivered

eBay are awaiting proof of delivery?

So my funds are on hold.

Will they be released?

Re: Payments held

Did you add the tracking where you marked the item as dispatched?  Some are finding they can still use Custom Postage and Simple delivery seems  to be pushed back to be mandatory for Private Sellers from the 28th April.

Royal Mail's tracking is sometimes not in sync with eBay's tracking, and the latter is the most important for releasing a faster payout,  that is,  2 days after the delivery date.

If you have found your tracking has not updated,  therefore holding back your payout,  contact eBay Customer Services, provide the tracking showing delivery, ask if they can kindly release your payout now as 48 hours have passed the delivery date.

This is the easiest and quickest way to contact eBay Customer Services, for a Call Back option.

 https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/eua?id=5275&mkevt=1&mkpid

Lines open between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays.

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

I recommend contacting CS very first thing in the morning, when the lines first open,  as there's more chance of Dublin answering.
