Seller, located in Leicestershire, has a return address in California - What can I do?

Hi,

The seller of an item is listed as being located in Leicestershire UK. I purchased an item, which is not compatible, and therefore need to return it. Having started the return process, the return address is California, US. The postage to send this item to the US will be extortionate. What can I do? Are they allowed to have a California return address if they are located in the UK?

Any assistance is much appreciated.

Thanks

If listing said posted from UK, that is where you return item to.

If it was change of mind, you pay return tracked postage,

If not as described, seller supplies returns label.

Ignore seller excuses.

Escalate case on day 4 for ebay to sort.

The seller of an item is listed as being located in Leicestershire UK.

No. he isn't. The sellers' items are located in Leicestershire, but the seller is in China.

This means that eBay will require the seller to provide a UK address for the return.

You haven't told us whether it was your mistake or the seller's that caused you to buy an incompatible item. If the former, you are responsible for paying the return postage. If it was misdescribed you need to use eBay's money back guarantee when the seller will be required to provide a prepaid return label.

If the seller continues to insist on you returning it  to an overseas return address you may need to contact eBay customer support.

In future, it's a good idea always to check a seller's feedback page, which will show the country in which they are registered. If in China, any guarantee offered by the seller claimed may be worthless; items may not comply with UK safety requirements and you will have no meaningful UK statutory consumer protection.

Re: Seller, located in Leicestershire, has a return address in California - What can I do?

Hi

Thanks for your response.

The item is just not compatible for my machine. I do not believe the seller has mis-sold the item. The seller is not at fault for the incompatibility.

I just want a refund on the item. I am happy to pay a small delivery fee in order to get my refund, however, as previously stated, the address provided by the seller is in California.

To confirm, you are indeed correct - I have just noticed that the location is in 'China', however, the advert says 'UK Stock' and 'Free Delivery'.

Having started the refund process, the delivery address is located in California.
