I was told by the seller to change my reason for a refund so I cancelled the first refund request. Now I can reopen a refund, any ideas?

Oh nooo, never close a case, as once closed another cannot be opened.
What is the reason for the return? If the item is faulty you will have to turn to your payment provider now, for help with your refund.

have closed the return also. They are thinking about compensating me for my twenty year loyalty. We shall see.

Mmmm, like you, I think.... we'll wait and see.
Wait a while, if there's no eBay message that a refund is being made, then turn to your payment provider for help with your refund now. You usually have 180 days to claim there, don't leave it too long though !
