My ebay app won't open, it won't open  unless I sign into the play store first, why?

Hi All, my ebay app keeps diverting me to sign into google play? Why won't this app function without being SIGNED into my google play store?

In addition to previous answers, Friday is Maintenance and strange things happen! Normal service usually resumes later in the day
