Package delivered to parcel shop but no bar code provided for shop to scan & then release my item

An item I purchased at the beginning of December was sent by Royal Mail to a local newsgent/parcel shop I selected. I had a tracking number from Royal Mail and called at the shop to collect. What I didn't have was a bar code to show the shop owner so he wouldn't release the package to me.

I had already checked my email messages (including the spam folder) carefully but couldn't see any message which provided the bar code for the item. I've bought a large number of items from eBay over several years and not had this situation.

I've requested a bar code be re-sent by eBay as the seller says it's up to me to do this and not him.

Anyone else had this happen before and is the seller correct?

Seller can't supply code  only ebay can.

You should have contacted ebay to get them to resend it.

Unfortunately you only have 7 days to collect from delivery.

After then shop MAY return it to seller or usually donated to charity or destroyed.
