My item sold again but the 1st buyer never cancelled

Not sure how to proceed..  My item sold again so I assume the 1st buyer cancelled however I had no note on this. 

I have msg them to see if they wanted a refund.. , they payed but never picked up. Should I just refund them?  I am quite confused..  should eBay not tell me if the buyer cancels?

If the item was paid for I don't see that the buyer would want to cancel the order!

If the order was a collection only item then they need to open an INR case and you refund them through the case.

(That is assuming you no longer have the item as you say you have resold)

Your chair listing showed an image of two chairs as a set of two and said you had two available, meaning two lots of two.

At a guess you only had two chairs not two lots of two, so you need to sort this out and the first buyer has priority.
