Is there a guarantee in electrical goods .My 120 amp alternator purchased in November 2024 from selly service lasted 8 months.Ebay told me there is no guarantee only a 30 day return offer.Is this correct

That is correct. They don't get involved with warranties. Contact your payment and see if they can help.

eBay's own money back guarnatee only lasts for 30 days. After that they have no interest.
You could try your credit or debit card issuer; they can often help, but I doubt whether they will do so for a purchase last November. If your seller was a UK business seller a credit card would give you the best chance - possibly even if you only used it to fund payment from another source, e.g. PayPal.
Otherwise if this was a UK business seller you should have some statutory consumer rights. You could ask citizens advice, or there is plenty of information online. Be aware that even when you have rights, enforcing them against distant, uncooperative sellers on eBay may be difficult or impracticable. Buying from unknown selelrs online is not like buying from the shops.
