I ordered an item on Dec 1st. Ebay told me item is being dispatched and will send me tracking details.
No tracking details arrive.I have been unwell and it was not until January I try to get it sorted. Numerous attempts to get a response from seller are ignored. I have tried the "robot assistant", which tells me seller has until Dec 8th to deliver. It ignores further keyboard input, apparently everything isOK.
Is there no way I can speak to a real human being?
Les.

If delivery was due on 8th December, you have left it too late to start an 'item not received' case through Ebay - they allow you 30 days from the latest estimated delivery date.
Contact your payment provider (Paypal, bank card etc.) to see if you can make a claim that way.

4th to Dec 9th. I have been unwell, and not quite "with it", though I
did realise after about one week it had not arrived, but post was very
slow at the time with black Friday and a number of ferry cancellations
by which our post arrives.
I have just checked carefully through all my emails, and the only
information I have is confirmation of my order.
Are you telling me I am too late, and that Ebay will have no interest in
this sellers failure to supply?
Not very good if that is the case.
Les.

eBay have a 30 day MBG, Money Back Guarantee policy. This means all claims for item not received must be made within 30 days of the item's last estimated date for delivery.
This date will have lapsed, so here, you will need to turn to your payment provider for help with a refund.

Ebay have to use a 'cut off' date after which they will not consider 'not received' claims.
It is strictly 30 days after the latest estimated delivery date.
To me, it seems fair to the seller and buyer to give buyers just over 4 weeks to realise the item has not arrived and report it to Ebay.
If Ebay were more flexible, sellers would not know where they were. If I had sold an item seven weeks ago, I would certainly have transferred the money to my bank account, would probably have spent it, and not be in a position to refund. Additionally, carriers only allow sellers a limited time to claim against them. If buyers don't make a claim promptly, it may be too late for a seller to reclaim their money from the carrier. You bought at a very busy time and your purchase could genuinely be 'lost in the post'.
As advised, by myself and @tressygirl you can turn to your payment provider and open a claim that way. Unless the seller has tracking proving delivery, you are likely to be successful.

I have been selling through Ebay for at least 16 years, buying
definitely longer, so Ebay, with their vast data reserves know me as
both a good buyer and seller. They also know since my first opening this
case that I have messaged the "seller" a number of times, with no reply
whatsoever, not even a protest of "I have sent it".
If that in itself is not a reason to enquire further, then what is?
Why should I ask Paypal for a refund, either the "seller" should send
the goods, or Ebay should require them to refund. That should also ring
alarums so that they ban further selling by him/her. Les.

Buying for longer than 16 years, the rules have not changed for eBay's 30 day MBG Money Back Guarantee policy.
Your seller has played you here.
Sending one message is fine, but if you see the seller is dawdling making excuses and or promises, just ignore all that and you open a case for item not received. They have to then refund you within 3 days if they do not have tracking to show delivery.
If they don't you must escalate the case, eBay step in and force the refund. All this has to be managed within 30 days of the item's last estimated date for delivery. Foolproof if you follow those rules to receive a full refund.
If you did not escalate, the case will close through inactivity.
It's one case per item, so you cannot open another from eBay that is why we are advising you to now turn to your Payment Provider. If it was PayPal now the eBay case has closed, you can open a case with PayPal.

I can't agree, sorry - we will have to 'agree to differ' here.
30 days seems fair, even generous to me, to notice that your item has not arrived and report it to Ebay.
And, essentially, when you buy or sell on Ebay you agree to the terms of the User Agreement, including the Money Back Guarantee.
Of course, you are entitled to your opinion.
However, this part of the forum is for advice, not discussion, and mentors can only point out the Ebay procedure and suggest a different way to reach a resolution.

The seller has played you, it's the correct word.
One message is perfectly OK to send to a seller to try and fix an issue, but if they are not responding, making excuses or ignoring your messages, they are ' playing' for time, you then message no more, but open a case and escalate on day 4 eBay then forces the refund.
