I have been using ebay for over twenty years why am I being asked for age verification?

As per the title, why do I have to give sensitive info, ie. CC info to purchase sharps, when I have been a member for this long.

Using a credit card to pay is the same as using any bank card - there really is not any 'sensitive info' involved. Ebay now only allow sellers to accept a credit card payment as proof of age.

You could perhaps get somebody with a credit card to pay for you.

Thank you for the answer.

My point is that, I must be over 18 years old if I have been a registered user here for 21 years.

Why should I have to jump through hoops to purchase something?

This nanny state business is ridiculous.
Any information regarding finance, passed over the internet is sensitive in anyone's  case.

I understand you have held your account for a long time.

However, no proof of age is required when you open an Ebay account and there are posts on this board (only infrequently) from parents of underage members or members who freely admit they lied when they opened their account and are not 18.

You cannot hold a credit card until you are 18. So. asking for this form of payment is straightforward and definitive proof that the buyer is over 18.

I bought craft scissors from a specialist online firm some time ago.

I had to upload photo ID - driving licence or passport.

Personally, I would rather have paid with a credit card.

But there's no proof that it's you who are making the purchase.
