So I sold a moped on Ebay. My buyer paid through eBay. He showed me confirmation kn his phone. It wasn't showing in my account, so I got a call back from Ebay to see what I could do. The customer service adviser told me the buyer had paid, but as it was a vehicle I had to wait for funds to make sure the buyer was happy with the moped. The advisor also sent me an email with contact details of Ebay motors, so that if there was any issue with payment I could contact them.
As I had seen the buyers confirmation and the customer service adviser had measured me I let the buyer have the moped. The buyer helpfully left good feed back to try to help the payment go through.
So a few days later, having paid a listing fee and final value fee, bit still no sign of the payment I contacted the email address given to me. They got back and said payments are nothing to do with them.
So I decided to contact an adviser again. 7 advisers later and after being told I was being put through to someone that specialises in these problems, and over 2 hours of my time, I was abruptly told it was my problem. I should have got cash in collection. And before I could reply I was cut off and now am now unable to access the chat feature.
So it seems like my buyer has paid but Ebay are going to keep the money and have taken all the fees from me too.
I also asked at least twice to make a complaint, but was assured that everything would be sorted out.
I've been with Ebay 16 years, same account etc. I've never had any problems like this before. I'm pretty shocked to be honest. To make it worse, the moped is my teenage son's so he really needs that money.
I'm hoping someone can help. Thank you.

You have been scammed
Your buyer could not have paid eBay as your listing did not have any online payment methods which are not available for motors.

It sounds like either the first 'advisor' was not ebay, or they were looking at the US escrow guidance which doesn't work in the UK.
As pointed out, vehicles have no checkout options on listings so buyers can't pay ebay, they have to pay the seller direct.
I am afraid you have lost the money and the moped.

I have an email off the first advisor giving me the details of ebay motors in case I still have problems with payment.
I've also seen this off the buyer when he picked it up?

The screenshot confirms the purchase but not the payment.
If you look in Payments you will be able to see if any money has been paid into your account.
However, the only payment method available on the moped was cash on pickup. The buyer would not have been able to pay through Ebay checkout and I am afraid you will find that there is no payment pending when you check.
As advised, you have been scammed.
Although the advice from Ebay was harsh - that it is your problem and you should have only accepted cash on collection - they were correct.
Personally, I would contact the buyer and point out that they have not paid you although I doubt that will do any good.

Hi just want people who replied to let know that the buyer was a real genuine guy. He has offered now to pay cash and he is getting Ebay to refund him for this payment. I'm not sure how it happened that it was able to be paid by him this way if only cash on collection was allowed.
The thing that's annoyed me about Ebay is that I spoke to an adviser on saturday while handing over the bike and they assured me the buyer had paid it, and it would appear in my account later. I've got an email off this guy as well. But they refuse to acknowledge that this was a mistake.
