Ebay auction fee

I put up an auction for 350 starting price today afternoon thinking that the listing would be free of cost as it stated in ebay that it would be free for 300 listing except for vehicles. I did not know about it as I am new to this app. I saw ebay trying to take money for the auction I put up so I cancelled it before any bids happened and before the 12+ hour rule. Would the charge be gone? I also contacted support regarding this issue. I cannot spend 40 pounds as I am really in a financial crisis. I used this app so I could atleast get something from some items that I have with me.

Re: Ebay auction fee

Did you list a vehicle?  Then a listing fee is charged the second the item goes live,  even if you then immediately cancel the listing.

You could try and ask eBay Customer Services for a refund,  explain you made an error, they may make a discretionary refund of those fees, but they are not obliged to.

This is the easiest and quickest way to contact eBay Customer Services, for a Call Back option.

Lines open between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays.

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

I recommend contacting CS very first thing in the morning, when the lines first open,  as there's more chance of Dublin answering.

The cancelled item is not visible so you would have to give more details.

Was there an item number?

Did you set a reserve price (that is a 4% charge) or agree to promote the listing?

Re: Ebay auction fee

What was the length of the auction? Special time framed ones eg if 1 day are not free.

Re: Ebay auction fee

It was not at all a vehicle. As I mentioned, I did not know about any payments as I thought listing's were free. But when I saw Ebay trying to take money I put it down. I wanted to know if ebay will stop trying to take money as I took it down as I had no bidders and took it down the same day night. I put the auction for 10 days

Re: Ebay auction fee

It was about 10 days. I put it up in the afternoon and when it was about 9:20 I saw ebay trying to take money from my account. That is when I put it down ASAP. I have asked for support in this regard. Hope i won't get charged.

Re: Ebay auction fee

Had you put a reserve on the item?

Re: Ebay auction fee

Yes i did because I thought that was mandatory. But I put the whole thing off (deleted the listing) as soon as it tried to take my money. As I mentioned earlier I asked for support as well. I'm now waiting 48 hours to get their reply. Please help me out. Thanks

Re: Ebay auction fee

When you list an auction item, you see this:

Click on the little 'i' for information and you see:

'This is the lowest price you're willing to sell an item for. A non-refundable listing fee, charged when the listing goes live, applies whether or not the item sells.'

There is no intention to deceive you.  It is clearly stated that a reserve price is optional, that fees will apply, and that the fees are not refundable.  Reserve fees are 4% of the reserve fee that you set.  Obviously, you can appeal to Ebay and ask them if they could possibly waive your fees.  However, they certainly are not obliged to waive the fees.  If they won't, then you will have to pay the fee.
