Hi all,
I have been using ebay for more than 20 years for buying and selling...
Following the purchase of a Hybrid car last year, I purchased an EV Charger on ebay that included a 5 year warranty from the seller. After approximately 6 months use, I noticed one morning that the 240v plug appeared melted (presumably due to the 1.8kW being transferred to the car for 5 hours overnight). On removing the plug, I then contacted the seller to request a new replacement charger as it was covered under their warranty. The seller made many excuses saying that he 'had to speak to his manager' then stopped communicating to my follow up messages. I also tried to get ebay to intervene as the seller was not complying with the 5 year guarantee offered on his advert although I had no success with the automated help...
At my wits end, I then contacted Trading Standards and tried to pursue via the Scottish Court system small claims process. This also failed as the seller was based in China!
To summarize, I paid for a charger that failed and tried everything to get either a replacement or refund but to no avail. I'm £80 odd down but what gets to me is that the seller offered a warranty where there is no way he was willing to honour it - I'm sure this breaks one or more selling rules, but buyers are left to try and work out how to follow this up themselves (once the sale goes beyond 90 days).
Definitely not impressed ebay...
Thanks,
Jim
