Buyer quality gone down

I have been a member for nearly 18 years and buy and sell from Ebay.

But this last couple of years and especially this year people who buy are becoming very difficult and downright rude .

This new thing of being able to cancel after winning a bid is becoming more and more common. Also they lie all the time and as a seller you have no come back and loose more time having to relist and days again .

Why is asking for payment unacceptable?  I am a private seller not a shop but if you bid and win pay don't play games and then cancel.

Ebay needs to support the loyal .

Anyone else having similar issues   🤔

Give buyers the option to cancel and clearly some will sadly.

Maybe look to add immediate payment to some of your listings, so a listing will stay until a payment is made,How immediate payment works | eBay

You can also block any members who don't comply to buying and paying here, Buyer management | eBay

However annoying or rude a buyer may be, eBay does not allow sellers to leave anything except positive feedback comments, or none at all.

If you leave "false positive" feedbacks for buyers as you have done they can report you to eBay. The comments will be removed and it's you, not the buyer, who will be penalised by eBay for feedback policy violation.

Nobody says it's fair, but these are the rules. At least eBay now provides a quick and effective response to non-payers, by enabling sellers to cancel the sale if the item is unpaid after four days. The buyer will receive a unpaid item strike for every occurrence, which stays on their account for a year. Two or more strikes means that most sellers will automatically block them from bidding.

Re: Buyer quality gone down

Hi thank you for your reply.

I have sadly had to block buyers.
In one case they bid on the same item three times and did not pay and
ignored all my messages.

I do feel for little sellers like myself who once enjoyed selling on Ebay
it's lost it's good buyers maybe to vinted or other places ?
Or maybe as times are hard it attracts people to bid without intention of
buying ?

Re: Buyer quality gone down

It is frustrating with auctions when they bid and don't pay,  there's no denying it,  personally why I rarely use that format.

I view auctions to be used when there is no evident ' ceiling' level for a price for that item.  That is,  it may be a rare , vintage or one off item so the price is to not exact.

Your items do have a certain ceiling level, I would sugget listing them for the price you want to achieve, as a Buy it Now with immediate payment selected.

It may even attract more buyers, who are then able to buy and pay immediately and receive a faster dispatch than waiting for an auction to end.

Worth a shot perhaps. 🤔
