Yesterday, not for the fist time, I put in a bid, I was the highest bidder for the last 2 or 3 minutes, and until the after zero time, then watched the 'hang tight' message for 1minute and 31 seconds before a message to say I'd been out bid. Why does this happen now? It used to be , like all other auctions, that no bids were accepted after the given time. There's no joy to bidding on eBay any more, I don't mind losing, but when this happens I feel cheated.

The clocks may be slightly out and/or the other bdder was using a auto sniping tool in the final second. But at the end of day had your max bid been higher than theirs you would have won. Whoever is willing to pay more will always win.

You can see the bidding history, that will show the timing of bids and there will be no bids placed after the end time.
As usual it is always the highest bidder who wins, not necessarily the last bidder.

There can be slight timing differences, but it could just have been a busy time of day causing delays.
Do you for example if item is priced at £10 place one bid at £10, or do you place higher price say £15. Then if someone bids £11 ebay automatically bids for you at £12, and so on until your maximum bid is outbid.

Questions about bidding are normally fairly easy to answer. But not unless you let us know the item number, or cut and paste the full bidding history, including automatic bids. Otherwise it can take ages to explain the possible situations that can arise according to the exact time and placement of bids.
