i sent an offer to a buyer and they accepterd that offer, now ebay says its sold but the buyer although theyve accepted the offer to buy did not pay immediately as normal practice. why do ebay allow this almost semi scam...when i recieved mesaage that id sold the item i got it ready for posting and just checked again on my laptop from my phone as more detail to see that ithad NOT been paid for and therefore not actually sold. why do ebay allow this thanks
It is sold, it is jsut awaiting payment. Buyer has two days to pay before ebay send a reminder. It is 4 days before you can cancel using reason "buyer did not pay" and gets an unpaid strike.
It is strange that buyer accepts and does not pay immediately, but many like to take their time, or could have accepted on a phone but not be able to pay that way.
Ebay do not let non payers get aay with it,it is sellers who do. Sellers can block any member with two or more unpaid strikes, and if all did this Non payers would soon find bidding and not paying rather difficult.
For BIN with instant payment, buyer hasn't bought until they pay.
With an offer, because seller has to accept or counter offer, buyer can't pay immediately as they have to wait for seller confirmation.
I'm just coming back to your question and giving a different answer here as I think this applies more.
I have just seen that you are under eBay's Managed Payments. So, if eBay have sent you a message that your item has sold, it should also say your buyer has paid. Payments are not retrievable instantly anymore, but if sold, the buyer has paid.
eBay need to take their fees, then send the remainder to your bank account, it depends on your bank's processing times when it becomes available to you, at worse can take 4 working days, the past recent weekend will hold up the process a little, too.
Well there's no way to enforce a buyer to pay immediately, frustrating though it is I agree, it would entail being able to access their bank accounts to make those immediate payments, thankfully not allowed. All eBay can do is to give buyers a timescale in which to pay a seller.
So now, there is a new system of retireving a non payment.
If your buyer has not paid within 4 days, you can now cancel that order stating buyer has not paid, and your seller fee will be refunded, the item will be relisted unless you choose it not to relist.
This link will explain the procedure fully.
An item is "sold" when the buyer accepts a BIN, when an item with bids comes to an end on auction or when an offer is accepted. The listing could not possibly stay open thereafter!
Payment is a separate matter ...
im not concerend about forcing buyer to pay immediately..my point was that ebay should not close my listing and message me to say your item has sold when in fact they are still awaiting payment. on a buyitnow listing the item is not sold until the buyer pays...when you send an offer to a buyer and they accept, for some reason ebay allow them to accept the offer thereby closing the listing.. but the item has not been paid for .its not a question of wiating on the bank, we are talking about ebay are waiting to be paid by the buyer thanks
Sorry, I did not know when you said sold, it then went into your Awaiting Payments column , and not Awaiting Postage.
eBay will remind them in 48 hours that they need to pay, then after 4 days you can cancel the order.
Yep, cannot disagree it is annoying, but once an offer has been accepted by a buyer the item 'on paper is sold', again nothing to enforce a buyer to pay on the spot here, but reminders and penalties for the buyer will ensue if there is not a prompt payment.
