why do ebay allow buyer to accept an offer seller sends them but allows them not to pay imediatley

i sent an offer to a buyer and they accepterd that offer,now ebay says its sold but the buyer although theyve accepted the offer to buy did not pay immediately as normal practice. why do ebay allow this almost semi scam...when i recieved mesaage that id sold the item i got it ready for posting and just checked again on my laptop from my phone as more detail to see that ithad NOT been paid for and therefore not actually sold. why do ebay allow this thanks

I'm just coming back to your question and giving a different answer here as I think this applies more.

 

I have just seen that you are under eBay's Managed Payments.  So,  if eBay have sent you a message that your item has sold,  it should also say your buyer has paid.  Payments are not retrievable instantly anymore, but if sold,  the buyer has paid.

 

eBay need to take their fees,  then send the remainder to your bank account,  it depends on your bank's processing times when it becomes available to you,  at worse can take 4 working days,  the past recent weekend will hold up the process  a little,  too.
