then the kids took over......not exactly the career path i wanted (nursing)

Worked in washing machine parts factory, then as a catering assistant, then as a medical photographer, moved into the City of London in the '80s (greed is good!) and worked for a management consultancy, stopped commuting across London and became secretary at a school.

First job after leaving college was in the drawing office at MFI producing the furniture assembly instructions (possibly the most hated person in Britain at the time :^O)

Left there after a couple of years to work in a printers producing all their artwork.

Went back to MFI to run the Tech Publications office (more blummin'assembly instructions)

Then went to work at Ladbroke Racing H/O where I set up a graphics bureau for.  Great fun and very varied and given a free rein!!

Left to have first of four children but freelanced for Ladbrokes for a couple of years.  Also did a lot of freelance technical illustrating (more blinkin' furniture instructions!!)

Now I work for a number of lovely party/events companies producing invites, printables, bunting, party bags etc also promotional bits.  LOVE it.  No 2 days the same.  Fits round the children and allows me to be arty farty every day and get paid for it in the process! Have toyed with idea of going back to work now all the children at school/college but TBH self employment allows me to contribute to the family purse and still be a Mum (my favourite job of all!)

What an interesting thread, so diverse and some peeps doing jobs I didn't even think existed!

I started work in London when I left school, as an international telephonist for what was then GPO.  I then worked for Fred.Olsen Shipping & Travel as a receptionist.  Made redundant from there so I went about locally looking for jobs and eventually found one in a quite dodgy company who glazed photos onto china - quite popular at the time.  I hated that and left when the family that ran it had an argument and shoved a desk into me (I wasn't part of the argument, I was just in the way!).  Did temping in offices for a little while and, through that, ended up being a solicitor's receptionist then secretary/PA in the same firm.  I liked that and stayed about seven years but eventually the staff changed and I landed myself as secretary/general dogsbody to a rather lazy legal exec who thought she was God and took all the credit for the work, most of which I was doing!

So I left, took my then PSV licence and started work as a coach driver with a local firm.  That's what I still am, for another local firm.  I love it, really I do.  I've done that for 25 years this summer and can't imagine doing anything else now, my only regret is not starting doing it sooner!

Qualified as a teacher in 1977, Educational Research in 2 Universities from 1986, worked for a Council as a Senior Officer from 1992 and then got 'head-hunted'!

I gained another couple of degrees on the way.  (Don't worry - you don't have to address me as Doctor geranne28 :^O )

Gerry died in 2001 so I re-assessed my life.

I took a huge pay drop and gave up my Company Car (an Audi) to do what I truly valued.  I worked as Assistant Principal in an Independant Special Needs College for young people with complex difficulties. 

I have loved every part of my job-working life.  Each taught me tremendous skills - but especially they taught me to be humble and value what I had in my personal life.

What interesting lives people have led

(Huggles, we may have huggled you at some point - live not far away and spent a lot of time there when children were little). Used to be able to get a Mother/Toddler ticket for £3 or £4  for the day. It's not the same these days, sadly 😞
