Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD

Morning ladies.

Yes Ratty, I use pillows for stuffing. Generally buy new, but have used up a couple of old ones on doorstops etc.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD

Oops Morning Learning.  You were not there when I posted.

I'm really into this recycling business.  Saw one of those log makers and wondering whether to invest in one.  You use paper, soak it, put it into press, dry it and then put on the fire.

We waste and recycle a lot of paper in this house, so it may save us a fraction on wood/coal etc.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD

dried pinecones make wonderful firelighters MrsR
collect as basketful, let them dry out
sprinkle with cinnamon oil
makes an aromatic display
use one to light the fire
again releases more aroma
yummmmmmmmmm

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD

i also read that if you shread paper and pack it tightly into toilet roll tubes, they burn for quite a long time too, its like making your own little logs

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD

My friend bought one of those. They take forever to dry apparently!

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD

Morning ladies.  I had a lovely lunch yesterday, steak and kidney bake, which was a pie with a suet pastry top, it was yummy!  While we were there, one of the sisters in law was awaiting news of a new grandchild, she finally made an appearance at 4.50pm. Amberley May:O !! (there are a couple of villages called Amberley!)

I came back on here last night but it was spookily quiet!

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD

Good afternoon

Welcome to Amberley - have heard that name before - seems to be getting more & more popular 🙂

Mix bag of weather here - sun & showers. Decided to stay indoors and sew.

What a contrast - am doing a batch of dolls - first ones are quite opposites of each other - A witch for Merlin and an Angel for a display in a local church. They asked if our S&B group would like to make some as part of an angel festival to be held in December. Just need to make sure I put the right body parts together!!

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD

*starts filling toilet rolls*

Yes, Patch.  I soaked some paper yesterday and made it into little balls, just to see.  I know I haven't got the squeezing power of these machines, but they got left out in the air yesterday and have been in the sun today.  Still wet through.  Maybe I won't bother. 😐

But then again.  We have waited a couple of years for the logs to dry out when we cut trees down. 🙂

Maybe I will bother :^O

Welcome to Amberley May 🙂

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD

afternoon,  been to Stowmarket , just got back
shoved a pie in the oven and turned the heating on

MrsR if you are planning to get the log thing i suppose if you make them all year then there are times that you will stockpile as you dont use  them in summer, and if you have pleenty of storage/drying space that would be good - i guess an unused greenhouse over the winter time could be used- to let them dry - I expect once you get the hang of it then it'll become secong nature

welcome to baby Amberley

iddnt get very far with that book, ended up in bed after a headache
waves at everyone
