I use a £ shop "rubber" shower mat for my machine (suckers towards the table). Protects the table, doesn't slip about and the machine doesn't move about on it.

You'll need a walking foot for quilting by machine. You can do it without but it's easier with as without it the bottom layers can travel faster than the top layers.

61# Same here, managed to find the same one I had borrowed off my friend so ordered it pretty sharpish for delivery tomorrow.

Everything is layed out on the dining table ready, sewing box re-organised and box of tissues on hand for the tears when the machine does't arrive.

Now off to look for a new sewing box... Happy days 🙂

therapy?

therapy??

I am a REALLY laid back person, 99% of the time
but i find it sooooooooooooo stressful & tiring
the concentration is massive to me, i dont know why

i have been sewing all night long in my sleep :^O
i woke up disappointed, no progress made and i thought i had:^O

I need to sort myself out
because of the building work, my quilt has ground to a halt
but i keep buying fabric
for future projects you understand;-)
so my head is choc full of ideas all going round:_|

sewing is NOT theraputic at allX-(

Calm down dear! lol It's meant to be fun! :^O
I don't know anything about Singers except I used to have one many years ago. Most people I know in my quilting circle have Berninas, Elnas or Janomes.

Like the idea of the shower mat under the machine. However I want to make a mat as my first project as it's simple and small.

Have no idea what a walking foot is or if I have one. What does it look like?

THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Just checked the manual for my machine.
I have

Blind Hem Foot
Zipper Foot
Buttonhole Foot
Button Foot

I assume that the Blind Hem Foot is the 'everyday' one?

Does this mean that I have to buy another foot if I want to machine quilt?

What make is your machine? You would need to get one that fits it.
It is possible to quilt without one if your wadding is thin & you have tacked all your layers together really well. I use a basting spray (505 spray) which sticks the three layers together & for smaller projects means you don't have to tack at all.:-)
Jaycotts sell walking feet for most machines. They push the fabric from the top as well as the bottom to ensure even quilting. Google to see what they look like.:-)

A blind hem foot isn't a plain sewing foot. You should have a basic foot on the machine for plain sewing.

Machine is a Lervia KH4000 Maggie.

Just been looking at the feet and it comes with the Zigzag Foot attached, for 'normal' sewing.

Just found a Universal Walking Foot on that website - £31.67:O

Not even sure if it will fit.

Think I'll just do plain sewing for now :-(

You can manage without one.:-) If you decide that quilting is what you really want to do you can look into getting one then.:-) Start with some simple patchwork squares or strips.

Plus you can always quilt by hand especially for smaller projects :-)

Good point Sandy. Hand quilting looks lovely on smaller things & I find it quite relaxing to do.:-)

I really don't think I'll be making any full sized quilts. Not even sure what I want to make, but just feel the need to do something while my eyes are up to it.

Will probably be making small useful things for myself and for presents.

The last time I used a machine was an old hand Singer of my Mum's so I have a lot to learn ;)
