THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

"Bamboo is a naturally antibacterial product and our 100% bamboo wadding is made with the softest bamboo fibre with no chemicals or bleaching used in the process. The approximate loft is 2.5mm (1/8”). A scrim binder has been added to these waddings to allow a distance of up to 20cm (8”) between quilting lines. Available in 4 pre-cut sizes.

Pre-washing is not essential, but will reduce shrinkage in the finished quilt if this is not desired. Shrinkage is less than 5% and will give the quilt an antique, wrinkled look if the wadding is not pre-washed.

The bamboo fibre is sourced from Sichuan province, China. Strict management ensures it is grown to international organic standards. Each bamboo is grown without any chemical pesticides or chemical organic materials."

Merlin - search for "flange cord"

Seriously PMSL at the name :^O

The tape is not seen as it is in the seam. You just see the cord edging.

6oz polyester wadding is no good for quilts Learning. Even 2oz is a nightmare. Quilt wadding needs to be thin so it can be quilted through easily without puckering.

Is the loft the thickness?
What on earth is a scrim binder?

Merlin - you would hate me. I laugh hysterically at the word flange. It is really annoying :^O

Yes the loft is the thickness. The scrim binder is like a stabiliser added to the wadding so if your quilting is quite wide apart the wadding wont pull apart but stay in one piece. It's hard to explain.

So I would need to find a specialised quilting shop to buy batting?

I explained what it was for when I bought it and they recommended the 6oz.

They didn't have a clue then Learning...sorry. You can get it on here (search batting not wadding) or by mail order from Paulines Patchwork, Cotton Patch & many others. What size piece are you planning to make?

Will just be a small mat to put my machine on.
May do it with the wadding, and just do the quilting by hand, then get the proper stuff for my next project.

Yippee - I'm glad this thread is here - saves me starting a thread question of my own:)

Now, I used to be an experienced sewer (not the drain type) but I have a tee shirt to alter for my son.

It is seamless, but I'm about to make it from a large into a medium, so it will have to have seams.

The question!! I cannot remember what stitch to use for stretch or indeed which is my stretch stitch foot.

Help!

Sorry, but I'm beggaring off to watch the film Working Girl, so I will check for answers later

Thanks in advance :) Photobucket

Maggie!...I love this thread! Its good to compare all your loves and hates regarding sewing. Are we only going to talk about Patchwork or all types of sewing? As you know I'm out of sewing at the mo, but hopefully not for long. Regarding wadding, or filling, I like the Warm and Natural too. I have bought one of those bamboo ones ready for my next quilt, so will report in when I've used it. I'm so looking forward to the Malvern Quilt show in May. Its one of the highlights of my year!

Some machines have a proper stretch stitch but if not use a small zig zag.(I know about quilts but not altering clothes) I would buy one a size smaller! ;-)

I really hope that we can talk/ask about everything to do with sewing.

That thick wadding will probably do for a machine mat Learning but it isn't easy to work with. I use it for toy stuffing.
