Well that's me got me tree & decs up...
I have all my family ( & Kelpie, Maggie ) for Christmas, so I want it extra-special

Is he bringing his guitar? Still doing my decs. Fairy light failure in Amy's room so I will have to get another set.

Afternoon all. I've finished the waistcoat that I was knitting but I'll have to buy some buttons in town in the morning. I'm now finishing a hat I'd started before I got the order for the waistcoat. Think that I might invest in some more wool tomorrow using some of my birthday money. After all, I've got to have something to keep me out of mischief over Christmas haven't I?
Stan, how's Miss S doing? Hope that she is feeling better.
All our Christmas deccies are up now and everywhere is looking nice and Christmassy.

**is an unhappy merlin**
can someone tell me what is wrong please?
adjusted the tension, though maybe not enough, maybe too much?
adjusted the timing
getting annoyed now
done this on pale fabric so it shows up well
does anyone know whats wrong?
16-12-2013 5:01 PM
Sorry merlin, thats why I don't do sewing, I am sure plenty of ladies will help you, something to do with the top stich being too loose and the bottom stich being too tight maybe, sorry gawd my mother would have a fit with me not knowing, she is an excellent seamstress.

strangely enough, making faces at it isnt helping either
wonder if i should shout at it
that makes everyone else do things
hmmmmmm
16-12-2013 5:17 PM
perhaps i should have said, thats the underside
i am about 15 minutes away from finishing a quilt
and i dont want to do it by hand now or it will look completley different
**sigh**

Your top tension is loose. Try all of these things:
Rethread the machine right from the beginning & make sure it ios seated in the tension disc. Try a new needle. Reinsert bobbin. Rewind a fresh bobbin. Come back if it's still doing it.

i have done all but wind a new bobbin

oops
thank you Maggie

done all of the above again, including new bobbin, newly wound, new needle, rethreaded
and its still doing it
when i sew
the machine is making a different sound to usual
a SLIGHT clunk, its just when the needle comes down its a more pronounced sound than normal
it started doing it after i put in a new needle

Is the bobbin in properly? Is the bobbin area free of fluff? Whenever this has happened to me it is always the threading at the top that is at fault. Does it do it with other threads or just this one?

fluff free everywhere (as far as i can see unless some is hiding somewhere i cannot see)
does it with another thread
can you tell me please
the bottom bobbin
i saw a video (a man representing a sewing machine company)
he said wind the bobbin, insert into the bobbin holder
hold the thread and let it go (like a yoyo)
it should fall about 9" if your tension is correct
is that what you would do?
i dont know why but i am thinking its the bottom tension

Is the tension disc gripping the thread as it should? If you have knocked the timing out somehow it will take an engineer to fix it.
16-12-2013 6:10 PM
It must be the top as the top thread is making loops underneath the fabric. I don't get the bobbin yoyo thing!
16-12-2013 6:11 PM
oddly enough i am confident fixing the timing
once you take all the casing off its pretty easy to see how it works and whats wrong
and how to fix it with an allen key
the bottom bobbin is just a mystery to me though
i understand how it works
just not how to know its correct

I still think it's the top tension but happy to be proved wrong! lol
