I'll just give a brief outline and if you need details I'll fill them in but here is what has happened. I would love to hear what you think should happen next.
Had new glasses several weeks ago and they dug into my nose until it bled and I couldn't see properly without keeping moving my head. They were varifocals. The frame was chosen with the help of an assistant.
Went back and was told that they were barely suitable for varifocal lenses as they weren't deep enough. They were adjusted so that they didn't hurt. I was asked to persevere but to return if they were still awkward to use and that a new frame would be fitted at no further cost to myself.
Returned today, saw a different assistant. Chose another frame which was £20 cheaper. They will be ready next week. I asked about the cash difference and was told 'Due to the expense involved to change the frames and other expenses involved we tend to just call it quits.'
What say you?

That's not ' quits '...they owe you !

Bad customer service...........what they sold you originally was not fit for purpose and as such you should be entitled to the difference back.

I was about to say I bet I knew where it is too, but would have said one with the initals D & A.
I had a similar situation some years ago, was given the wrong prescription. Went back, they fiddled with the glasses, still no good, couldn't see a thing. They gave me another test, free, but lost my records when I arrived. They agreed, however that the prescription was wrong.
I wrote a letter or complaint to their Head Office in the end, and got a refund and kept the frames.
I took the new and correct prescription and the glasses elsewhere and got new lenses.

They saw you coming.....
You obviously couldn't see them..

That's the reason I stopped going there. I didn't like their attitude anyway. Keep getting letters of them saying that it is x number of years since I had my eyes tested. In theory, with them it is but I have had my eyes tested at a different optician.
They definitely owe you the difference. I wouldn't let them get away with it.

Agree you should ask for the difference back. As for your sore nose ask for the soft pieces that go on your nose, I had that trouble and they changed them to soft ones, much better, sorry don't know what they are called.

mou...how are you...& how is Bob :-x

So glad that your opinions are the as mine. I just couldn't believe that she had said that they usually just called it quits, I said,'I don't'! so she said that she would see what could be done. I'm almost hoping that she tells me that I can't have anything back so that I can really go to town on them.
I don't normally get annoyed but this just gasted me flabber.
Your are right in thinking it was S...S.v... and spot on on the remarks about the attitude of some of the staff.
Many thanks each and all.

As they are a franchise you need to write to the branch manager. Ask me how I know! lol

I'm with Rose ^^^^, not just they were not fit for purpose, but also, as she says, the stress etc., you were caused. I mean, your specs are an everyday essential (well mine are) - they should not only be refunding you but compensating you too.

They should have told you the frame was barely suitable before going ahead with the one you picked.
As it is they've made something not fit for the purpose sold.
If they didn't tell you that was the risk you took in picking those frames, then what I think should also happen next is trading standards explaining the law to them, before someone less able to check their rights gets ripped of too.
Good luck.

They failed to exercise a proper duty of care to their customer by deliberately selling you a combination of frame & lens that were not suitable. Any extra cost they incurred is their responsibility not yours.
Minimally they should refund you the difference in cost of the frames, but I would also expect some kind of compensation for the discomfort and inconvenience you have suffered.
soft as velvet but comes with needle sharp claws

no way would should you accept that tilley,
you did not get the service you paid for... inconvenienced to say the least....... and calling it quits.... just leaves me speechless
