Horrible flu won't go, & taste / smell hasn't returned

Hi

My flu symptoms started 13 days ago, and it's been the worst I've ever had. I'm still barely getting out of bed, and I'm so weak and exhausted.

I'm concerned that my sense of taste and smell hasn't returned yet. I always lose them with a cold or flu, but only for 3-4 days. I'm not bunged up, things are the opposite in fact.

Is anyone else in the same boat?
I'm worrying a little, as they can be lost for years or sometimes for forever after a really bad virus.

yes, people seem to be suffering for ages, they get a cold/virus it runs it's course but refuses to leave!!

just keep resting, your body will heal when it's ready.

I'm in my third week of this virus, and yes it is horrible. My sense of taste hasn't returned yet but sense of smell is back so its a start. This is one of the worst virus things I can remember having - bed for the first two weeks and still feeling very delicate, hope you start to feel better soon.

Its three weeks today for me and still can't taste or smell a thing, although when I held a jar of crushed garlic under my nose tonight, I could smell it ever so slightly.

I bought Starburst (Opal Fruits) sweets in desperation as I was sure I'd taste those, but nope 😞
Like you, I've never had a virus like this before; and apparently it's swine flu!

My symptoms have mainly gone, but I've got sore lungs / chest pain when I cough. Are you the same?

yes, sore lungs, and coughing up so much gunge I wonder where its all coming from. Also the lack of energy is scary - if I cook something to eat I'm exhausted, I feed the dog and need to sit down to recover, its getting to be silly now. The GP insists it is a virus not flu, but having had a flu jab I'm wondering if this years vaccines have failed again. I also had terrible pains in my arm and leg muscles, have you had that? I'm still living on gallons of fizzy lemonade as its about all I fancy. I knew my sense of smell was coming back yesterday when I knew the cat had performed even before I had got downstairs - the one time I would have been grateful not to smell anything! Can only suggest fluids and plenty of rest and hope you get better soon.

Both my neighbours have got this and the wife has been in bed with it over a week now.

Apparently it's the reason why our county hospital had it's busiest day ever recorded in A&E last Monday!  😮
