Is it just me, or are others insulted by the infantilisation of this board, and being awarded badges, for "being helpful", or whatever?
I'm a grown up, not a child. I don't need badges so others can see how helpful I am.
My 3 year old granddaughter get awarded badges at nursery school, for acheiving things like washing her hands, brushing her teeth, being nice to her little sister etc., and quite honestly, it feels like I'm seen by ebay, as having about the same mental age as her!
We're all adults here; I just wish eBay would treat us as such.

I'll send you a tufty badge.
Darn, missed. Sorry, landed 200 metres SSW of you at 40 degrees down. Just dig a hole, sure to find it eventually.

I love a school trip!
we took 85 9-10 year olds on the ferry to the Isle of Wight for a three day, two night 'activity' experience,
apart from a few hiccoughs, it went really well

the rolling post numbering means it's mine now!

An adventure for some kids getting away from home with friends.
Did similar age 11, school in Blackpool that went to youth hostel in Colwyn Bay (north wales) for 3 days. Went again as an adult helper age 18, much more enjoyable except for having kids around.

If the old Kudos were awarded for similar reasons ; and then abolished , why have we backpedalled into a similar idea again now ?
Just asking for a friend.....

We have alot of accounts on the community that are passive. That means they read and log in but don't get involved. Badges have been used to encourage these accounts to become active.
No disrespect Katie, but I have been on ebay for years, I used to love selling, but with all the various glitches on here, and changes that are obviously for the worst, I cant stomach selling on here any more. I log into the boards at least once a day, and if I feel to reply to a comment I will, but if eBAY truly believes that by handing me some useless badges, I will post on here more often, then they really are extremely deluded 🙄
What would mean more to me, is for them to stop messing about with things that work perfectly fine and then end up breaking them, and actually sort out all the glitches and broken things that are reported on a daily basis, so I can start selling on here again pain free 🙄

Good post, you deserve a badge for that.....haha.

The community team could message these accounts and ask why they are passive. Or they could send out a survey on board participation. Unless they think these members are so passive they wouldn't respond to message or survey.

That's beginning to sound an awful lot like Market Research.
From their previous behaviour, it would appear that eBay are unfamiliar with that concept.

... yet they think they would respond to getting a virtual badge - not saying much about passive members, is it?

We had a school day trip from Torquay to Guernsey when a ferry started the route in the 1970's.
On the way across many kids were sick. On the way back (after eating plenty of rich Guernsey ice cream) nearly all the kids were sick and there were also a few injuries from pupils slipping over on the puke covered decks!
Quite a memorable school trip. 😥

The community team could also message the accounts of prolific posters who suddenly stop posting and see if they can find out the reason(s). There could be all sorts of reasons why someone posts on here, several times a day for a few months and then just stops. If they are still buying and selling on the site then something caused them to just stop contributing to the forums. It's possible they are using a different ID of course but a change of ID generally doesn't change the spelling mistakes and choice of words so they are fairly easy to spot. I can think of several (I would give examples but no names allowed) who were very helpful and went out of their way to contribute and give good advice for months or even years, who now no longer post in here. All of them still have active accounts and recent feedback so it isn't as if they have stopped using ebay. I can't see badges encouraging them to post again. Perhaps ebay's community team could reach out to them and ask them their reasons for no longer contributing ?

They did.

They are very familiar with that concept, problem is they totally ignore the results that don't match with the replies they want. Or they only ask questions that can give the answers they require.
Hence despite frequent requests to fill out pointless questionaires I no longer waste my time with them.
Another thing is with the usual imaginary eBay mathematics I have a badge for 1000 helpfuls given (surely received would be better if they really want to encourage participation) yet only show at time of writing 828 given.

A school trip I still remember was to a London museum. For some of us this involved walking in the front door and out the back to visit let's say the seedier parts of Soho as they were way back when.
After visiting a few "joints" half a dozen of us were walking along, minding our own business, when a big black Mercedes screeched to a halt beside us. Two hulks leap out and had a mate up against a wall. After what seemed an age they put him down and sped back off in the car.
After my mate stopped gibbering he said through chattering teeth it was a case of mistaken identity. Due to what he had bought earlier and had in his hand. A nice black walking stick. Actually a sword stick. Very Zorro when pulled out. Apparently the two hulks bosses mate had been run through with one a few hours earlier.
It was all like some outtake from a gangster movie.

The community team can have all my badges, plus a good many other posters' ones too, if they could just get choice offered so the few who like the new lister can use it and the many who loathe it can return to the 'classic' one.
How about badges for the community team based on how many times they claim to pass on comments somewhere vs how many times it results in some progress? The team deserve badges, they've little else to encourage them in their frustatingly "piggy in the middle" role.

Could be dyscalcia or could be simply bad at maths.

A great item and easy to use - stick them with the pointy end to quote from game of thrones.
Sadly due to other people those items are not allowed these days. Have to make do with metal or wood walking sticks that have a rubber bit on the end. Officially in no way a weapon of course.

That was back in the sixties when we also often innocently compared large fishing knives in the playground.
And keeping on topic the museums had some great badges. I particularly liked the dinosaur ones.

Ah yes, the sixties! I Was in the Scouts then, and carried a 6" Stiletto on my belt. Perfectly OK then, but had to pass my "Using a knife" badge first. Now that WAS a useful badge.
Still got it somewhere, (the knife, not the badge), but would probably get my collar felt if I wore it these days 😂
