Is it just me, or are others insulted by the infantilisation of this board, and being awarded badges, for "being helpful", or whatever?
I'm a grown up, not a child. I don't need badges so others can see how helpful I am.
My 3 year old granddaughter get awarded badges at nursery school, for acheiving things like washing her hands, brushing her teeth, being nice to her little sister etc., and quite honestly, it feels like I'm seen by ebay, as having about the same mental age as her!
We're all adults here; I just wish eBay would treat us as such.

Reminds me of stories I used to hear of in IT.
Staff getting money for every bug they found. The staff were programming ....
You can probably guess the issue that management didn't pick up on for a while. 🙂

I now have 24 badges!
I really don't see how giving someone a 'virtual' badge is going to encourage them to post more problems for people to solve or spend time finding out how to solve someone elses problem
you either have a problem or you don't
and those who want to answer queries already do so.
Never pegged you for a school trip person. Funny old world. 🙂
Enjoyable trip?

If ebay wanted to encourgae us they should be the ones answering message left on the boards on a hourly basis rather than next to never. When we have questions we would like to hear answers from the horses mouth rather that somone who maybe leading others in teh wrong direction. Seems they want a "community" that they take very little part in.
I must admit though ebays stock answers seem to be "We are monitering the situation" which actually means they are doing nothing to most questions or problems.
Considering their answers on the phone would you really, really want them doing the same answers to sellers and buyers with problems?
The community is somewhat insane and often goes off on tangents but generally we don't tell people what they want to hear, we tell them the truth. Much to the annoyance of a few posters.
I'd be perfectly happy if ebay employed some staff who were expert on ebay and could advise people on the forums. Job anyone? I'd certainly recommend several posters on here as calm, compassionate and expert posters who with access to ebay resources and ability to solve problems directly would be great.
@candytan67 , @pixiesen2012 , @hill-walker , plus many others.
(not for me, I'm already in a job I love that is in a different sector of the economy than ebay and they could not give me what my employer gives me).

You think our badges are not the best, you should see this lot, my business id got it's first one Aug 2017
Hard to see I know but if you can make them out.... 37 to collect and treasure... rather than the measly 30 we enjoy... Can't see a "Have a nice day" badge though

Truly awful 😞

Well at least they haven't given us names yet.
On ebay.com posters get badges and a name under thier ID name.
My name is "Rockstar" . And new users to the boards, think I put that name there myself.
Other names for posters are, Guide, trailblazer, thrill seeker etc.. The name posters are given depends on how long they have been posting on the boards. The badges didn't bother me, but the Rockstar name did. I think it's childish. And the name can't be removed.

Shhh... don't say that, or everyone will want one 😉
Edit: whilst taking a peek at the .com board, I did a search for Badge threads; it seems they're taken quite seriously over there 🤣🤣🤣

Could be worse. Anyone got given 'Fruit loops' yet?

I'll take village idiot if its going. Or Tevye - I can do the fat man singing bit anyway (If I was a rich man ....).
People love my singing, they say the world seems so much better when I stop.

This is actually what i'm known as at work (and probably home as well although it hasn't been confirmed!). We might need to have different shades of Bossy cow.

How disappointing to see regular, experienced posters pouring cold water on this splendid idea.
While I appreciate that some of us look back on our schooldays with no particular nostalgic fondness for our Monday Milk Monitor or Deputy Prefect badges, we must make allowances for the different feelings of others. Particularly eBay Community Team Staff Members.
It is quite clear that the virtual gold stars which form such a central part of the eBay staff incentive scheme, are the highlight of their month - nay, perhaps the pinnacle of their very career!
It is therefore both crass and hurtful to reject the staff team's efforts to share a little of their excitement with the regular posters here. There is no earthly need to take virtual pins and pop the virtual balloons which have been planned, designed, and presented to us with such thoughtful and virtual care.
Perhaps we could more kindly employ our time in designing better colour schemes for these badges, so that we will all have more incentive to contribute more.
Good name in man and woman, dear my lords,
Is the immediate jewel of their souls.
Who steals my purse steals trash; 'tis something, nothing;
'Twas mine, 'tis his, and has been slave to thousands;
But he that filches from me my good badge
Robs me of that which not enriches him,
And makes me poor indeed.

I work with special needs children in the real world
and stickers and badges work until they reach 9 or 10
after that even they laugh at being given 'badges'

We are all special. 🙂
Seriously if employers tried this sort of thing there would be lots of sidelong looks between staff and quite a few rolling eyes. And mutterings about management.
One employer I worked for once had £20k left at the end of the year that must be spent. Wahay we thought, a small bonus.
No, plastic potted plants.
End up being usually placed in storerooms or buildings on site about to be knocked down.
Badges are at least better than cheap platic potted plants. And probably a bit cheaper.
