You're right, eBay does not let you unsubscribe from every type of message in Communication Preferences, just some of them. I suspect these generally lead to sales and cannot be avoided.

its a pointless alert , at the time i made my bid i am obviously winning so i dont require a specific email telling me that , rather to get an alert if i have been outbid 
anyway ebay dont care what we think , i am currently being badgered to send id even though i hardly sell anything at all , just an obsession with data harvesting
