I ordered an item back in May, and only realized when looking through my purchase history this morning that I never received it. It was sent untracked according to the order details, but I know that some sellers send tracked but do not enter the tracking number on eBay. The purchase amount was £28, not a massive sum, but too much to simply lose with no item to show for it.
Obviously, it is too late to open an INR case through eBay.
It is entirely my own fault that I did not notice earlier that the item had never turned up. All I can say in my slim defence is that I had ordered a lot of stuff from eBay and other sites around the same time as this order, and with all these other items arriving, this one's absence escaped my attention.
Normally, I leave feedback shortly after receipt of an item, partly for the seller's benefit, and partly as a way of indicating to myself that I received the item. Unfortunately, I've let this slip recently.
I have messaged the seller (less than an hour ago), and am currently awaiting a reply, but I'm not sure what they can do at this stage, other than checking the tracking number (if they did send tracked but didn't put the tracking number in eBay).
It looks like my only option now, other than taking the loss, is to do a chargeback via my credit card. I've never done this before, and am concerned about how doing so might affect the seller, e.g. leaving them out of pocket and affecting their metrics.
I should add that the seller (an individual registered as a business) has 100% feedback, and I have no doubt they did post the item. It looks like the item got lost in the post, or perhaps was delivered to an incorrect address (my address appears correctly on the order).
I'm kicking myself hard for not noticing this sooner, and am worried that the seller may think that I am trying it on, especially considering the amount of time since the order was placed. I also worry that the seller will think I am trying to exploit the fact that the item was (apparently) sent untracked.
I should perhaps have waited for a reply from the seller before this posting this, but while I await their response, I thought I'd ask if anyone has any advice on how to proceed about getting my money back.
