I used my Gixen automatic bidding system to place a £147.00 bid on item Ebay item 146441316423 last night and later received a Gixen message saying "YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO BID ON THIS ITEM" Why did my bid fail being £45.00 more than the winning bid

Might be because of this :-

Yes, the sharp implements policy is very likely the reason. If you had tried to bid on the item directly on eBay, I expect there would have been some sort of 'verify your age' pop-up box looming up at you, before you would be allowed to proceed with placing the bid.
