If I sell something for £1 is it true that the seller is charged a 75p flat fee? That is so off putting as a buyer and seller.
If I send an item via Royal Mail's untracked service when will I get paid - will it be 48 hours after the estimated delivery date.
These changes are rubbish for everyone. Surely they will impact sales adversely.

And typical ebay I understand they intend to include it in the buyers price not seperately so buyers will simply think sellers are charging more
And as we know when ebay starts at 4% it will only go one way over time.

If you send untracked then you get paid 14 days after the order date.

I have been an Ebayer for over 20 years. I am afraid this is the final nail on the coffin for me. The rot started with the ‘UK only’ sales coming from China. When l complained to EBay l was given the runaround. Now l have to pay a surcharge to EBay on every purchase? Is this because of unscrupulous people using this once great company? Why punish the payers? Most of my purchases are around £10, several times a week. This will increase my spending significantly.
l won’t touch Amazon, Temu or Ali Baba…….where to go spend in February?

Only applies to purchases from private sellers. Business sellers are not affected.

Unless a buyer is watching a particular item then they probably won't even notice.
Showing the fee separately to the listed price would cause much more confusion in my opinion. Would make it a lot more difficult to compare prices with those offered by business sellers or elsewhere.
Buyers will be able to see the full breakdown on the checkout page.

From February the buyer is charged 75p flat fee plus 4%. 79p on £1.
This is apparently not charged on postage, so expect to see the return of insane postage once again, but this time a bit more welcome. 😀
I speculate this loophole will not last long.

This will be precisely why they intend to make 'Simple delivery' mandatory for private sellers (so the postage price is controlled by eBay).

I heard about this. Buyers will be paying fees on any purchases from private sellers not businesses.
Great! This means even less sales for private sellers. Who is going to pay X amount of money extra on something when you could probably buy the same thing elsewhere off site?
Guess that is the end of eBay?
03-01-2025 7:47 PM
It is even worse for private sellers as any sales monies are on hold until the item is delivered to the buyer. This requires trust on the seller's part that the buyer isn't going to f over the seller. What do you do if you are selling something because you are in desperate need for money and have no money to post the item?

It will not be mandatory. Sellers will be able to opt out when they create their listings.

I don't agree - if private sellers are selling their own, unwanted, pre-owned itams, then they will be offering items that are not readily available elsewhere, probably at lower prices than a buyer will find anywhere else, even with the new buyer's fee.

That's all well and good but not all postage options are available on the website and not all of us own a smart phone for a qr code.

Like? Name five things you can't buy in the shops brand new?

It is not mandatory at the moment and there has been no official announcement but the CEO has intimated that it will become mandatory at some point this year.

If this had been in since October it would have meant I would have had to lower my prices another £30 or so to get a sale on my items otherwise why would a buyer buy from me paying an extra £30 at least when they could buy the same thing from a business?
This will put private sellers out of "business" as it were.
Now am thinking do I sell something now and get more money or leave it and never bother?
03-01-2025 8:28 PM
Almost all of the things that I am selling.

Anything vintage or antique. Clothes, jewellery, watches, tools, electronics.
Anything made by a maker who is no longer in business.
Anything that is no longer made even if the maker is still in business.
The toys, trains and games you had as a child.
Rare collector items, brand new is very rarely rare.
All the second hand stuff that made eBay the behemoth it became.

Who would want to sell their odds and sods on ebay now... Game Over ebay...
13-01-2025 9:16 PM
Yep. private sellers are being driven OUT of ebay...
