unable to change from private to business

Hi,

I'm trying to change my account from personal to business and it's not allowing me to do it.

Managed to change bank account to business one and also managed to add my VAT number, but it's not allowing me to change ebay account to business, when I get to "Update your account details" screen, after entering all the details and clicking "save and continue" button doesn't take me to the next screen, I can click 100 times and it does nothing.

Tried different browsers, clearing cookies, incognito mode and nothing works.

Spoke with CS 3 times over the period of 2 weeks and they haven't got a clue what's wrong, they reported to technical team and apparently they responded that it's all ok and it should work, but it doesn't.

Anybody come run into similar glitch ?

Possibly because you have ongoing auctions.

Have you familiarised yourself with the listing fees /shop fees for business sellers? It may be the right thing to do but  unless you are going to scale up it may be a bad move financially. A loss making business is not a business for very long. Goodluck.

Thank you very much, to be honest I didn't think about that, my auctions are ending in 2 days time, so I will try again then and let you know. I know that changing to ebay business account means much higher selling fees and from HMRC point of view you don't need a ebay business account even if you are a business, but I prefer to have all as it should be, anyway thanks for your advice, all the best.

I would suggest that you read the Ebay T&C's in regard to a business account!

How reading Ebay T&C's will help me with the ebay glitch which preventing me from changing my ebay account from individual to business ?

I waited for the auctions to end (all ended last night) and still the same glitch/loop not allowing me o change from personal to business.

I have another  reply from CS this morning:

"I raised a ticket with our IT department regarding you being unable to upgrade your account to a business account. This is currently still being investigated by our IT department. As the issue is not yet resolved, I will keep this ticket open and check for updates from IT daily, and I will personally contact you again via email once a response has been received from IT."

To be honest I think I gonna give up and explore other selling platforms, anyway thanks for your help, all the best.

I think perhaps you should have upgraded first and then added your VAT details etc.   Most people trading on private accounts are not VAT registered and I think you have confused the system with the way you have done it.

If you want to continue to sell on  eBay you probably need to start a business account from scratch.

Sadly I tried to change to business first several times and only after that I added VAT number just to see if it works and it did allow me to add VAT number, but it's still not allowing me to change account from individual to business, same before adding VAT number and after.

If I start new account from scratch my good reputation / feedback and selling history will not be there, that's why I'm trying to switch this particular one.

At risk of getting schooled about the law here, but you have done all you can do. I would spend the time getting everything listed as you want it and coming up with strategies to make your business grow. Just keep going.

Sorry but they should not do that.  You might not want to mention the law, but trading on a private account, especially if you are the size of a VAT registered business, breaks a number of laws.

The only choice if this account cannot be upgraded is to open a new account.

Edited, actually as this private account already shows the VAT number, if the OP can also insert contact details and allow returns, they would at least be abiding by Consumer Law.  A statement on the listings that they are a business seller would also deal with the law against masquerading as a private seller, so with those changes they could keep using this account.

Can any of you help the OP? At the moment they have a private account but with a business section showing their VRN (but no contact details) and have no returns.

Hi @bazingapunks ,

It should be giving you the option to change the account to business. The original tech ticket for your account has been escalated to be further investigated so it is currently with the product team.  The customer support agent who spoke with you yesterday has it logged so as soon as there is an update from tech on this they will reach out to you.
