Simple Delivery for Business

Apologies if this is well known but I spotted today that Simple Delivery has been added to Postage Preferences on my Business account - see screenshot. The edit option is only to deselect EVRI or Royal Mail. Are others seeing it or have I been selected?

SD is not appearing as an option when I do a listing but looks as though as it could be imminent.

Re: Simple Delivery for Business

Good grief.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Yes, I see I had been opted in to Simple Delivery as well.

Evri is no good to me being a 10 mile round trip. So I immediately opted out of that.

Yes, I do offer Evri, hardly anyone chooses them, but it is pick up only.

Also, as you said as well, I cannot opt out of Royal Mail (it says I must choose one).

I thought as a business account, it was entirely up to us?

Looks like they are coming for business sellers now, just as we all knew they would.

Can any of the ebay's employees urgently advise please, this is not acceptable.

@bzmotman Thank you for pointing this out, switched Evri off. Hoping we don’t get muscled into this as I’m a large letter seller.

Re: Simple Delivery for Business

Interesting. Unlike C&C and GSP there is no opt-out; there's just the option to deselect RM or Evri (but not both). I noted it states "Courier options" under "Status" so I tried to create a postage policy for Simple Delivery but the option to do so isn't there.

I would actually welcome Simple Delivery with open arms for any postal/parcel stuff I sell. Most of the items I sell are sent on pallets so would never qualify for SD. However, as a business that doesn't send enough parcels to have a direct account with a courier I'd welcome responsibility for INR cases shifting to eBay for such items. In fact, even if I had a direct account I'd likely switch to SD in a heartbeat for "eligible items".

I very much doubt SD will ever be compulsory for businesses; especially as eBay only offer Royal Mail and one parcel company as options. If SD - in it's current form - was made compulsory for "eligible items" sold by business sellers I imagine DPD, Yodel, UPS etc. would all go knocking on the CMA's door.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

@moldosgifts

All my business policies look okay, I can only see the Simple Delivery option in Postage Preferences.

Re: Simple Delivery for Business

I don't think you have been 'opted in'. to SD.  If you have been opted in, you will see it on the listing form. I think they have just stuck this in postage options for everyone - maybe ready for business sellers in the future, but I would imagine as a choice, rather than mandatory.

I already have business contract with Royal Mail mail daily collection so what do I do now ? stop using something that I get good discounts on, it';s simple & easy to do & been using for the past 10 years & then change to use the exact same courier, Royal Mail via ebay's SD system, because ebay will make extra money on postage !??

It makes no sense at all, esp. that the prices quoted by ebay are much higher for the same exact RM service then what I get from Royal Mail.

This is completely useless to me & hope this must be some tech glitch they will fix soon.

That's because SD has to be opted out of listing by listing. So if you do get it (which at the moment it only seems to be for private sellers), you have to untick the box every  time you list ... until it's mandatory, of course 😞

I'm a business seller & I have been opted in without any warning ! I see it in my postage preferences & there is NO OPT OUT button only which courier do I wish to use.

Where business sellers are concerned Simple Delivery cannot be selected as a delivery method in postage policies nor the listing template so I wouldn't start panicking yet. For the reason stated earlier I highly doubt SD will ever be a compulsory delivery option for business sellers.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Re: Simple Delivery for Business

@best-range when you opt out of Evri it pops up with a ‘why did you opt out form’ there’s a choice and an empty field to enter.
The fact you have a contract may well be worth entering?

You’ve probably already seen it but thought I’d mention it.

Re: Simple Delivery for Business

Did you really think they wouldn't?

I said soon after the announcement that this was being steam-rollered over private sellers that we were just the lab-rats.

Anyone want a bet on which you'll be getting next, Buyer Protection Fees  or Compulsory Payment Holds?

Obviously ebay wont respond - but maybe a MENTOR could participate in this major change

Thanks,

Already done, having a better deal/contract with RM already is only one of the many reasons why this would never work for me & if mandated I'd be forced to close my account .

There needs to be OPT OUT if ebay wish to implement it.

I still think this must be a tech glitch where the ebay system is not able to differentiate between "private" & "business" seller accounts.

Re: Simple Delivery for Business

I think there is something else going on as well. When I look at items listed by going straight to the category the postage charge showing for some but not all is all wrong. On my own for instance it was showing my rate to the USA rather than to the UK. On others it seems to be the European rate whilst others show the UK rate.

It would explain why my views have fallen through the floor on items I would expect to sell to the UK whereas those going overseas whilst down were "only" down perhaps 20%.

Anyone else able to replicate this?

I think you may actually be correct. The URL for the "postage preferences" page is the same for private and business sellers; it may simply be a limitation of the page template used (i.e. everyone sees the same options). Where private sellers are concerned SD can be selected as the delivery method in the listing template - a selection that is optional (for now).

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.
