Sales dead and views high march 2025

I know this is reoccurring topic, but something weird happened.

2 weeks ago my sales plummeted - but my views became erratic, showing higher views then the run up to christmas/valentines (Im a card company) all my sales at the moment are coming through repeat buyers.

Ive tried a sale, promoting more listings, taking down slow listings, I consistently list new listings and now I am as a loss what to try next.

My feedback is 100% and Im a top seller, the only things that changed 2 weeks ago is one return (customer accidentally ordered too many) this return is still open and processing. And ebay asked for my NI number which I gave them.

Anyone else having and similar trend? I Attached my views performance so you can see what i mean by erratic views.

I know slow periods happen, but its the run up to mothers day and Ive sold more mothers day cards on my independent unadvertised website then the ebay marketplace - which makes zero sense to me.

Any advice appreciated

Re: Sales dead and views high march 2025

We to are a sinking ship! Ebay is completely dead and we now earn no money by the time we have paid for the Anchor shop, fees, advertising, vat and tax and overheads of our unit, last year and year before we were thriving and now our listings barely get seen.

Time to shut up shop i think and go a different direction

Re: Sales dead and views high march 2025

I have to question why you are using an Anchor shop.

Just based on your current listings, you have 3831 active.

So for a featured shop, that will cost you £77 for the first 1500 listings.

You then pay another 5p per listing, when you go over that figure.

So with total listings currently, 3831 - 1500 leaves you with 2331 listings.

These will be charged at 5p each, which gives you a total cost of 2331 x 5p = £116.55

This in turn gives you a total monthly cost using a featured shop of £77 + £116.55 = £196.55

So if you are currently using the Anchor shop, that is costing you £437.

If you change, you are giving yourself an immediate saving of £240.45.

All the figures above ignoring VAT, which I presume you are registered for anyway.

As an aside, the threshold for making the Anchor worthwhile, is actually about 7200 listings.

Though a little earlier may be worth it if you want the extra benefit of concierge etc.

Re: Sales dead and views high march 2025

Sure so at the moment in the time you have been looking i have ended around 2000 items and have revised them by selling similar item and adjusted the prices so there is currently less active items, i have also scheduled them throughout the day.

I have a lot of stock to list to so the anchor shop does benefit me generally but not in terms of having visible listings.

However i may end some dead stock items soon and go back to a basic shop to save some money per month, so thank you for your response and calculations it will be helpful

Re: Sales dead and views high march 2025

I must admit, one of the real bugbears I have with Ebay is the Shop system.

It's so out of date now as to be ridiculous.

You can go to other sites, pay a small monthly fee and list thousands of items at zero extra cost.

And some sites, it's entirely free, other than the fee charged per sale, even those where the customer is charged instead.

But why on earth they can't make those kind of changes, when they are doing there best to copy other sites, I shall never understand.

Why should it cost someone selling individual items to list 10/50/100 of those items every time you list, when you have other sellers, who are selling the same quantities, but from a single listing.  It really is quite unfair.

Re: Sales dead and views high march 2025

Completely agree, my other half sells on Vinted and is making a killing, such a better platform for sellers.

The biggest thing that is grating me right now is the fact a neighbour by me sells motorbike parts but sells thousands on a private account as a business and pays no fees what so ever as private sellers get no fees.

I also know someone else close by selling similar parts to me and as a business also as a private seller and pays zero fees, i am paying thousands a month with ebay for what reason?

Re: Sales dead and views high march 2025

I agree completely.  There are so many sellers doing that and thinking that they are doing nothing wrong, it's ridiculous.

And because of the way that they have structured fees (particularly the free fee farce), it's made it extremely attractive to business sellers.

As to paying fees yourself, the simple answer being, because you are doing it legally.....

The problem could be solved very quickly, by making the same fees for everyone.  But I can't see them doing that, so the only option left, is that they MUST police it better.  I can but hope.

Re: Sales dead and views high march 2025

Yes it seems the business sellers are no better off here, they claimed they were bringing more people back to the platform to try and sweeten the business sellers.

All they are doing is trying to hold on because other platforms are becoming stronger and more desirable to sell on, so unless they change their ways i can't see eBay sticking around forever sadly.

I am down 50% of what my sales used to be since they keep changing things and push this advertising more.

They used to advertise themselves a lot pushing sellers to Google etc as they made money out of the sellers but now got greedy and expect the sellers to pay for it all and then there is no profits left
