Quitting - just yoo stoopid!

I Quit!!

It's been over 16 long years that I have been buying and selling on eBay (as a private seller) ~ until recently, I actually had a demanding career too.

I'e been legally blind since the age of 6, am severely disabled and at 53 years old, i am unable to walk. But as.I now know that I will never have to worry about a secure pension, I had hoped that I might be able to not be compelled to end my days here if I could clear all the stacked boxes here.

Often people are reluctant to sell on eBay despite the possibility of achieving a higher price due to the lengthy and complicated listing process. They're not wrong really, are they?

I'm no Einstein, but I do have 3 bachelor's degrees, a doctorate, am a published author and a qualified chef.

However, it's a true rarity when a listing is successfully posted without having to phone a friend

I just encountered ebay's solution by way of the new upload system and as a result have removed all my listings.

This has to have been designed by the same genius that added BING to Microsoft Edge.

The chances of me communicating with the "assistance" bot.. the same one that doesn't understand "I AM BLIND".. Yeah.

Isn't ableism grand??

Goo luck 🍀

ebay's increasing control over how accounts can be operated make no concession to any disabilities the user may have.

I honestly don't see how they win a discrimination case if one is brought against them for Simple Delivery.

Doesn't matter how good/expensive their lawyers are. There are just too many examples of disabled being adversely affected now.

& many of them are obviously valid.

I agree the listing process has become more and more complex. Item specifics were a good idea but soooooo detailed and the problem is many sellers copy someone elses because the dont know what to put making the item specifics wrong in many many cases which in turn makes the whole point of item specifics invalid

If you ever get to speak to CS, ask them to register your sight loss and any other things that you would class as a disability. In fact I would do this with any company you deal with. They may not be able to help on every occasion but at least it will add to our collective voice.

They lose a lot of opportunities for sellers because most people don't have half an hour to list an item. I sell things I know about. I used to work in customer service.. a high end retail company. Things like bots are an insult to their customers.

I just hit buttons until someone calls me back.  Often if I call and am confronted with a bot, I just go somewhere else.

I have lodged complaints each time about why the bot doesn't understand the words "Blind", "I am Blind", "I can't see".

Each time it's a process of being repetitive until you find a way to get through to talk to somebody.

I added a link to one listing. The item is a waterproof case that you can put your phone in and take pictures underwater.

The link explained what IP ratings were.  But each time I was accused by the Bot of linking to another site that sells something. I would eventually get through to a human who would read it and agree that it wasn't selling anything. The listing was up again. Then the next time I looked at it, it had happened again and the whole process occured exactly once again. After multiple occasions, the "agent" finally just said that I need to remove it because it will just keep happening.

Now if I was a buyer and I wanted to understand IP ratings, I would probably Google it and end up buying something from Amazon.

The reason people buy from me is because I know all about everything that I sell and write my own detailed "about this item". I test out everything and explain any pros or cons. Show images of how things work. I don't talk to my buyers like they're 3 years old or try to fob off rubbish as if it were gold.

I understand customer service from my experience in high end retail. I get buyers that follow me from other sites. I follow the tracking and when they have had it for a while, send a message, asking if everything is ok. They matter to me. Thus I have 100% feedback and have for a very long time.

But eBay doesn't want private sellers.

If I want to buy from Ali Express, DHgate, drop ship from Amazon, I will. If I want Adidas, I go to Adidas. I know it's authentic and they have good customer service. Why would I go to eBay. I very rarely buy from there anymore. If I come across private sellers, now those I like and will definitely consider buying from. That's what ebay was about. I don't need another Amazon. There's one of those and it's done more than enough damage. If a package arrives from Amazon because it's been drop shipped or the seller is using Amazon shipping, I tell them it's not for me and they have to return it.

Amazon posted my debit card details publicly on the clear web.

In the past year I have bought 5 items that were utter trash. When leaving a negative review, the seller, (who is almost always a professional and hasn't the first idea about it) begs me to change it, promising all kinds of things. I refuse. Buyers have nothing but feedback to know something is a good product.

I like to keep my buyers informed. Send next day delivery from my own pocket wherever possible, but if not, compensate the buyer if they're not happy.

However, all my listings say It's free postage controlled by eBay. It's not. I have a ton of collectibles that I want to offer overseas. Have you ever tried doing that?

I have 3 bachelor's degrees and there's simply no way I can comprehend that.

It looks like there are many ways in which ebay's latest changes to their systems are discriminating against people with various disabilities.

Anyone affected by this needs to make official complaints to whatever government departments deal with such things.  And also to the media, consumer organisations, relevant societies and social media.

If enough fuss is made, sooner or later somebody will start a legal action.

It's the only way ebay will get the message and have to do something about it.
