More Royal Mail price rises

Just got two emails from RM.

First, looks they're going to start charging for thermal labels unless you're using RM Tracked.

But on BPL via OBA/C&D there's some eye-watering price rises, including LL <100g up from £1.31 to £1.55. And crazily, £2.79 for 1st class where a stamp will be £2.60. So it will be cheaper to use a stamp than a business account?

It's getting to the point where low value items just won't be viable.

Re: More Royal Mail price rises

Royal Mail basically despise business customers. They are the worst company I have ever dealt with in honesty. I used to put about £25k of post a year through RM. Basically every parcel UK or international went through them. When they got 'hacked' (someone wandered into an office with a USB stick basically), and stopped delivering internationally for a month or so (but didn't tell their customers. lost all the parcels and didn't pay claims losing me thousands), I changed all my international post to EVRI. The EVRI portal is better, they are cheaper and they even pay claims properly. RM never got that custom back. They stopped paying all lost item claims and started losing a LOT over Christmas a few years back, so EVRI got all the standard and next day post as well. Special Delivery is still a good service BUT it's cheaper buying it from E-bay than from RM directly, so they lost that as well.

Now they only get 2nd class LL and Letter post from me and the odd international country that they are cheaper than other suppliers. They have managed to lose approximately £20k of revenue with their incompetence. I'm at the point where I might just pay the little bit extra to send LL with couriers as well. Royal Mail business also has a nasty habit of throwing in the odd 'parcel size wrongly declared fee', each week as well stating my LL are too large even though I have a Royal Mail size guide given to me by the Post Office 10 years ago when I started! ALL my LL go through it.

I find it rather amazing that there is no postal company that really wants my business. I'm a little large to be Joe Bloggs going to the corner shop, but I'm too small for any of them to really want to deal with. Go figure. Makes no sense when you consider RM literally designed the click and drop portal with sellers like me in mind.

Just a note to say that CRL post codes do qualify for thermal rolls for free.

Re: More Royal Mail price rises

Another hike for non-account holders too.

I've found this guide.

Our Prices (valid from 7 April 2025)

Doesn't say if that's counter or online, buy think it's online prices.

Quite a rise for 2nd class 2kg parcels, from £3.25 to £3.90.

More info, RM index page here.

That's showing a different guide for online prices, some actually going down.

Re: More Royal Mail price rises

Thanks for the link. In the first one it shows a RM second class parcel as £3.90. In the second link the guide shows it as £3.35 however the second link guide is online prices?

Re: More Royal Mail price rises

The first one was counter prices (it wasn't clear when reading it).

£3.35 is the online price.

Seems quite a difference, looks like they want to discourage using post offices.

Re: More Royal Mail price rises

Where I live we only have a part time post office. 4 half days per week. I think they should be encouraging people to use counter services because it’s just another nail in the coffin for small village post offices like these  I have a car and can drive to the bigger post offices but I’m approaching the age when I’ll stop driving so I can appreciate the plight of those who have to travel to find a post office

I know some will say it’s a different age now but there is still a generation who rely on a post office. I understand it’s cost saving but you should not be penalising people who wish to use the counter services

Re: More Royal Mail price rises

Looks like a 250gram LL will be cheaper on RM website than it is with a business account

Website - £1.80

Business Account (BPL) - £1.91

Re: More Royal Mail price rises

I know, I spotted that too. Same with a 500g.

Business Account BPL £2.34, Website £2.20

I am definitely cancelling my business account. Plus saves me dashing to the sorting office every morning before work and they are only open between 8am and 10am.

Re: More Royal Mail price rises

I'm lucky in having a couple of the new parcel postboxes closer to me than the post office.

I tend to only list stuff that will fit in them.

No good for anyone with loads of parcels, but handy for me who generally has less than half a dozen per day.
