Changes to Feedback in the Selling Experience

Introducing two new changes to feedback

Over the past few months, we’ve been working to improve the feedback experience. We are making these changes in order to give potential buyers better insight into your products.

We’ve started to introduce images on feedback for listings with more than one unit

Starting this month, some sellers will be able to preview feedback images on their own sold items for listings with multiple quantities. At this time, other eBay buyers and sellers will not be able to view images in your feedback. Once this rollout is complete, we will update you as we expand image feedback visibility to other eBay members.

To date, we’ve received just shy of a million feedback images from buyers on multi-quantity listings - and the vast majority showcase the great products and positive experiences buyers have had with sellers.

We appreciate that there may be some concerns that not all of the images posted will be positive. But rest assured, we take the protection of your reputation very seriously and have built moderation systems that review photos for inappropriate material.

You’ll be able to report any inappropriate feedback images in the same way that you’d typically report inappropriate text feedback. We’ll review the reported feedback and take action to remove it if it violates policy.

For more information, visit our images, video and text policy.

We’ve updated the default sort to highlight the most relevant feedback

A large share of feedback is made up of generic feedback like “A+++ eBayer” or one word answers like “good”. However, in an age where buyers are increasingly looking at reviews before making a purchase, this isn’t always helpful.

By updating the default sort on listings to highlight the most relevant feedback and deprioritise more generic feedback, this will enable buyers to receive a better understanding of what’s great about your products.

Please note that this is simply the default sort. Buyers will still be able to see feedback for all previous transactions, and on your feedback profile page, buyers can easily sort feedback by timeframe should they want to.

Re: Changes to Feedback in the Selling Experience

Totally agree, but what you didn't say is that they don't listen.

My guess is that they are hurting, as more items are now sold on Facebook marketplace, and quite often new items are cheaper on Amazon.  I am now tending to buy only quality used items which may be difficult to find elsewhere, but only from sellers with better feedback (they are still getitng it!).

Items sold ex China are  explicitly ignored.

Re: Changes to Feedback in the Selling Experience

And another agreement about the fact they don't listen - EVER!

They do survey after survey and then just carry on regardless with the next utterly stupid change. The latest change being the current test of the removal of seller ids from search listings.  On one of my accounts they have gone altogether so you now just get the seller feedback percentage against the item. On another they are still there.

It's just one never ending piece of insanity after another!

What happens if you don't write more? Will ebay allow feedback to be posted?

I just filled in a eBay survey this morning. Think whoever reads it will hit the delete button pretty quick.

Think my responses wont qualify me for the £500 prize draw.

Re: Changes to Feedback in the Selling Experience

"What happens if you don't write more? Will ebay allow feedback to be posted?"

I tested this when leaving feedback for eBay's packaging seller.

Give a review for the packaging - that question should be asked of the recipient of whatever it is used for.  I simply entered a '?'  That allowed me to leave the rest of the feedback.

How do you write a review of a book you may not read for months.  I have already noticed a significant decrease in feedback left since this was introduced as without the review feedback cannot be left.  Lunatics running the asylum comes to mind.  It will however inhibit the leaving of feedback for poor customer service for non-perfoming sellers.   Maybe that's the intention.

You think someone is actually 'running' this asylum ? 🤑

I think they just let the tea boy programme the AI and then left it to get on with things itself!

Re: Changes to Feedback in the Selling Experience

I'm not seeing this on my account at the moment, but had noticed a reduction in feedback.

Feedback wasn't perfect but it was a whole lot better before ebay's improvements.

Re: Changes to Feedback in the Selling Experience

The changes you've now made to the feedback this week are terrible.

Now we have 3 large boxes with Positive Neutral and Negative and NO COLOUR INDICATOR of Green, Grey and Red so someone could now easily misunderstand and leave a neutral or negative for a positive transaction because there is now no colour icon indicators to help them make the right choice.

I have now ceased selling on eBay because of this TERRIBLE thing you have now done to break the necks or respectable honouable sellers who really don't need confused buyers leaving neg feedback for positives !

Please sort this out ASAP !  😞  THIS IS NOT VERY GOOD.

Re: Changes to Feedback in the Selling Experience

uk-news@ebay:  Considering that eBay have made a complete and utter pig's ear of the feedback system with these badly thought out changes that have been rolled out since last year, as well as the fact that the vast majority of users don't even like the new changes, couldn't eBay at least have the decency to admit that they've screwed up big time and reinstate the feedback system as it was before all of these badly thought out changes were forced upon us?

Re: Changes to Feedback in the Selling Experience

" BUT if a potential buyer who wants to know more selects 'see all feedback' and then 'filter' and then 'negative' they get to see ALL negatives since the opening of your account but - worse than that - any response you have left to try to explain said negative IS NOT DISPLAYED. "

Oh!  That's not good.  I took to giving as good as I got replying to negative feedbacks. It gave an opportunity to let potential buyers understand what the true intent about any neg recieved might be, and for potential scammers a warning they will have a fight on their hands trying a fast one against me.

But if the replies to feedback are not seen, then the dice have been well and truley and very deliberately loaded against a seller.  This is an appalling change and works 100% against the seller and against eBay.

What the hell are these people playing at?

NOTHING about the new feedback changes are good - Before we used to be able to access ALL the information that we buyers need at a glance... now its CLICK, CLICK, CLICK and WINDOW, WINDOW, WINDOW !

It's a step back in the dark ages now and I don't like it 😞 😞 😞

Re: Changes to Feedback in the Selling Experience

SO POOR AND SHORTSIGHTED..TO SIMPLY HIGHLIGHT POSITIVE FEEDBACK IN VAIN HOPE OF EVEN RUBBISH SELLERS GAINING SALES TO BENEFIT EBAY. CERTAINLY DOESNT HELP BUYERS SPOT BAD SELLERS. STOP THIS FARCE AND RETURN CLASSIC FEEDBACK.

LAST FEW YEARS HAVE SEEN EBAY FLOUNDER ABOUT WITH CRAZY MEDDLING TO WHERE ITS THE LEAST TRUSTED SELLING PLATFORM OUT THERE

Re: Changes to Feedback in the Selling Experience

I don't like the new changes to the feedback system either.

Wish they had, had the sense to LEAVE IT ALONE.

There was really no need for them to mess up the original feedback pages which were very helpful in letting buyers see a seller's true feedback BEFORE they buy anything from  them.

Now it's all deceiving.

Re: Changes to Feedback in the Selling Experience

Over the last 2-3 years Ebay's fiddling around with feedback, has in fact reduced the overall credibility of feedback - it wasn't broken, all that has been achieved  is to make Ebay overall less likely to be the choice for buying - in these 2-3 years Ebay is increasingly competing with alternative sources.

Frequently now we can buy new stuff  from other souces significanltly cheaper than Ebay, makes it hard for sellers  when they have to include Ebay's 15% fees - only the less savvy will buy, for example used items (ie not new) which are more expensive than new from sources such as Amazon.

May be its future is in hard  to find ised items?

My suggestion to Ebay,is stop tinkering aroundthe edges, and review its business model, as its no onger what it used to be.
