Nelson Mandela - Martin McGuinness - Menachem Begin - and many others.

Rather than taint the 'other' thread it seemed appropriate to start a new one.

The question I'd like to ask is whether it is because the IRA committed their atrocities closer to home that many seem to judge the three individuals named in the title of this thread differently?

What about George Galloway? He should be included on your list too?

Alastair Campbell  has said "McGuinness was a central figure in the peace process" without him taking part and without the willingness of politicians to talk with him and others like him, there would be no peace in Northern Ireland, talking to anyone is a small price to pay for peace

Others would say that without people like him there would have been no need for peace talks.

He would have no doubt said that without the religious discrimination there would have been no need for people like him.

One mans freedom fighter is another mans terrorist. Historians can find good and bad in just about anyone, it will be interesting to see how they refer to him in the years to come. Having seen at first hand some of his handywork I would not readily forgive him or anyone else associated with political struggles

I can't remember which notables were involved (when talking about the IRA) but their exchange went something like this:-

"We will never talk to terrorists".

The retort was "You always end up talking to terrorists".

Got another name that should be on this thread - Tony Blair - he keeps squirming away from his crimes!

But he'd be in good company on here...

TB was the opposite of the others named on this thread.

He went from being a politician to being someone responsible for thousands of deaths unlike the others who went from killers to politicians.

Point taken - all equally as bad as one another in my opinion. It's interesting how they say time heals - it also helps people forget where some of these world leaders had their roots!

Going back a bit into history, but what about Richard III

Was he a loyal Royalist or just a 15th Century gangster
