Selling clothing items will be free for private sellers from 8 April 2024

From 8 April 2024, private sellers will not pay a listing fee or final value fee when they sell items of clothing on eBay.co.uk. The change also applies to clothing items that were listed on eBay before 8 April 2024 and have not yet been sold.

Why are we doing this?

Internal eBay data shows that those who sell on eBay also buy twice as much compared to buyers who do not sell*.

By removing fees for private sellers on sales of clothing items, we’re investing in the entire eBay ecosystem and providing more sales opportunities for private and business sellers alike.

Customers will also be able to benefit from a wider range of clothing items on eBay.co.uk, providing a smarter way to shop, for both their pockets and the planet.

The home of recommerce: supporting the circular economy

Since 1995, eBay has been the ‘home of recommerce’ and continues to enable millions to buy and sell pre-loved fashion**. Removing fees for private sellers on sales of clothing items is another step forward on our mission to make secondhand the first option.

This also continues the great strides made with initiatives like our Circular Fashion Fund and partnership with Love Island. In 2023, through the sale of pre-loved fashion, eBay saved over 1.6 million kilograms of waste going to landfill - equivalent to the weight of over 4 million shirts***.

“It’s an exciting time for fashion right now, with the pre-loved movement continuing to gather momentum as consumers increasingly look to save money and make better decisions for the planet. For a long time, eBay has been at the centre of this and we believe this move will only strengthen our status as the ‘home of recommerce’.

By giving consumers even more power and choice, we’re ensuring that eBay will remain a primary destination to sell and buy clothing. Our numbers also show that customers who sell on eBay buy twice as much as those who only use eBay to buy. So, we’re confident that business sellers will also be able to benefit from this”.
