Hi

I sell items and donate 50% to various charities. At the end of each month I would go into the eBay For Charity Dashboard and select all the items in that month and pay the invoice - simple.

I recently had an email from eBay stating that this system was changing (in September) and all donations would automatically be taken from each item sold and that the funds would be taken from Your Total Funds in the Seller Hub.

When I went into the eBay For Charity dashboard recently, the usual list of sold items was displayed in Pending Donations.

As I didn't want to pay the donation twice I contacted eBay, they informed me that everything would be taken care of automatically but I'm not convinced.

Can anyone else confirm what will actually happen and where the donations are made from because I'm really confused.

Thank you for your post.

Customer support were correct in that you don't need to take any action. The change is taking effect from the 30th. Any new listings from that date will automatically become part of the new system. Listings created before that date you will pay the older way via invoice.

I don’t think that was ever made clear, the email just said from September and didn’t mention anything about when items were listed. That all makes sense now.

Today I have had a payment taken from my Paypal account in addition to the amount taken at the time of sale. So it has been taken twice. Ebay have been no help so far.

This does seem strange. As the charity payments are now automatically taken by eBay at the time of sale there shouldn't be paypal payments. If there was an issue with eBay collecting the fee then it would go through the older method which would be by paypal invoice. Did you receive a paypal invoice for this payment that you then paid?

No. It came up as an automatic payment from paypal.

If you haven't already, you can add 25p of Gift Aid to each £1 you donate to PayPal Giving Fund from your PayPal account by adding a Gift Aid declaration there:

Strangely the transaction has now disappeared and no payment has been taken from my credit card.

Thanks for details. This is actually the donation receipt which reflects the auto payments that eBay takes. As eBay gives the donations to the Paypal giving fund you still receive receipts as a record of those donations. So its not the payment being taken twice, its a receipt for the one donation that eBay already collected.
