Hi I am trying to set up a selling page for a charity I volunteer with. When adding the trustees ebay require their NI numbers. Why do they need this when the charity is already registered as a business?
Has anybody set up a charity page recently who can help.

Possibly for KYC management. They may need to see that the beneficial owners of the charity are real people?

They can check all that at Companies House, plus they have the business bank account and VAT numbers

Hi @hartberry ,
After following up with the charity team they have explained that all the information shared during registration allows eBay to send your payouts and comply with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) obligations, which helps keep eBay a trusted marketplace.
Our data security procedures ensure that the information you share with us is safe. We’ll use and share the information you submit as described in the Payments Terms of Use. Learn more about how eBay protects your personal information in our User Privacy Notice. For more information, please visit Managed Payments.
It also helps to prevent other users from fraudulently onboarding and misrepresenting their organisation.
Thank you,
Kat

Hi,
We are a small registered charity but are unclear how we register our existing account as a charity account to meet HMRC requirements.
Is there a step by step process or someone I can speak to on the phone.
I don't know where to start or what outcome we should be aiming for. Should we be a business account? Is there a charity account option? What information do we need to supply?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Kat,
We are in the same situation as @hartberry. We are a registered charity and registered company. The Charity Commission and Companies House have already DONE all the necessary checks on the trustees to make sure they are legitimate people. Ebay shouldn't need to collect this information - we registered with Paypal, and lots of other companies with far less information!
We have sent dozens of documents to ebay and keep being asked for more and more! We are at the point of giving up! It will take weeks to gather all the information they require.

Hi @somer_found ,
Thank you for your post.
I understand it can be time consuming to gather all the required information for the registration. I appreciate that the charities commission and companies house have necessary checks done but Ebay needs to have all the details in order to adhere to the strict compliance polices. Without it we wouldn’t be complying with with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) obligations. It also helps to prevent other users from fraudulently onboarding and misrepresenting their organisation.
Thank you,
Kat
