More Unnecessary App Upgrades

For the last couple of years now eBay app updates meant  I had to update the OS on my iPad and iPhone - OS updates I may add that were otherwise unnecessary as there were no useful additional features, just silly things for sad power users.
Similarly the eBay App ‘upgrades’ themselves rarely brought any improvements - quite the contrary they would usually introduce NEW problems which eBay would have to fix (eventually) or release another update to fix the problems the previous update had introduced!

It’s now Feb 2025 and the latest ‘upgrade’ will not install on my IPhone 7, and the ‘old’ app will no longer work. My iPad DOES work with the upgrade but I’m sure within a few months another pointless ebay app ‘upgrade’ will not be possible.

ebay generally has been going BACKWARDS for years now, with ‘upgrades’ and ‘features’ that most people don’t want. Eg making OFFERS last FOUR days instead of the previous TWO; bypassing PayPal, holding onto payments for up to TWO WEEKS before they appear in your eBay balance…. The list goes on!

eBay - Why can’t you LEAVE THINGS ALONE? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Yep there have been many posts on this,  and initially a Community Manager posted this,  for app users:

The latest eBay app version is no longer compatible with android 9 and below. It actually requires OS android 10 and above. If you have another device with android 10 and above you can check the most recently updated eBay app version and see if you can view images.

Yesterday an update from eBay was posted, see here:

Yes, but the advice they give is WRONG.

It says “If your device has iOS 16 the app store will say you need iOS 17, but it should still download a version to your phone that allows you to keep using eBay via the app.”

But when you open the download (for older phones) it says it is out of date and you need to update!

I have spoken to an Agent on another matter today (a problem on the website), which they say they are aware of, and is a result of the recent update! So yet again, an ‘update’ breaks something that wasn’t broken in the first place.

Absolutely true. Ebay are CONSTANTLY changing their app, which is NEVER actually made better, always worse! Who is doing this? Their people in the US who are totally out of touch with how things actually sell in the UK? If I advertise an item at an attractive price, it's now ruined because Ebay add to it, making the very first price the potential seller sees as untractive, too expensive. Why is 'allow offers' still the default? When this is active, it ONLY encourages intimatdators who want to offer absolutely stupid money, so basically a time wasting exercise. It's evident that all the changes Ebay make to the app are all without consulting their long term sellers who have many years experience of selling on Ebay, therefore they what would work and what doesn't.
