cant get ebay  on my mobile phone after ebay asked me to update i just kept getting the same message to update is it possible that my mobile is too old and cant support the new ebay app. My mobile is a sony L4 Kind regards Richard

A Community Manager has posted this information for app users:

The latest eBay app version is no longer compatible with android 9 and below. It actually requires OS android 10 and above. If you have another device with android 10 and above you can check the most recently updated eBay app version and see if you can view images.

If you are using OS android 10 and above and still have issues with viewing images on the app please let me know. State what version you use and type of device and I'll have it looked into further by tech.

i dont understand all this jargon not very good with technology i think
its an android phone the make is a sony xperia L4. Its a few years old,
when i went on it to ebay got a message saying update and it kept going
back to update every time i went into ebay i took my phone to the o2 shop
the young lady tried but got the same thing. She said it could be because
your phone is old we have not sold one of those phones for years and is not
compatible with the new ebay app could that be the problem? But have no
problems getting ebay on my laptop computer kind regards Richard

It's not jargon, it's information provided by our Community Manager explaining the issue which is not technical so cannot be fixed.

Those with these phones have said deleting the app and using the browser on your phone is a good workaround.

I do not use the app I use a laptop,   there's no issues there.

I've had a quick look on Google for you. The Xperia L4 ran on the operating system Android 9.

Unfortunately, ebay have update their app and you now need to at least have the operating system Android 10.

As the rep in the O2 shop stated - unfortunately the phone is old (its 4 years which is a long time in phone terms). You won't be able to upgrade your operating system on your phone - so would need to access ebay in your browse, or get a new phone.

Thankyou cooksongold for that its a shame ebay dont have a phone number
that one could call and get this information straight away or even send
them a message whats going on with a simple answer would have done me your
phone is old fashion whats a matter with people no wants to talk nower
days , i will have to start saving for a new phone once again

I had issues with getting into my ebay app too.So unistalled the app and tried installing it again it now says my phone is not compatible??

I've got a android version 15 Samsung s24????

I've got the same problem. I've also got the S24 SAMSUNG MOBILE. I had to have a factory reset and ebay app was working fine until the reset.  So annoying 😑

Make sure you have the latest version of Google Play Services and Google Play Store. Your reset may have restored older versions which may not let you see and install the version of the eBay app that you need.

Ive also been affected by this update malarkey. If you just browse ebay and buy its not really an issue.

I occasionally sell and so far have lost 2 sales because 2 people have made offers on what i was selling and because my phone browser won't give me alerts/notifications, The offers expired before I had the chance to respond.

I'm very disappointed In this technology thing. Having similar issues with my banking apps.

My personal apps work fine,but my business app is stating the same.

Ebay and the bank have informed me its due to old ver 9 OS.

100's of other apps work.

So what is their real excuse.

Ask Apple why their newest, most secure operating systems won't run on older devices. Likely there are hardware limitations.

If you use your phone for financial transactions, using a ten-year-old operating system does not meet modern security standards, leaving you vulnerable compared to others with newer devices running newer operating systems.

If you sell, check your account more than once per day using a browser to see if you have any active offers. Notifications are not reliable enough to depend upon.
